Buying Shares Ireland

Hi Pretty P,
Im the same as you, i have been monitoring the share prices everyday and I said to myself once and if they go under 5 euro i would buy immediately. Im in the processing of transferring funds now to buy.

Also a big THANK YOU to kizzabel for your step by step guide in buying them! Would never of gotten them without you.

Girls whats worse is I was terrible at Business Studies!! God only knows how I managed to be the proud owner of a SH card!! Its so frustrating and confusing but worth the benefits in the long run!
Seriously Id buy at anything from €4 - €5 as i paid €8.19 a share :scared1: and only have 10 grumble grumble :sad2:
I think I'll wait for renewal and buy ten more :goodvibes

Got stopped in my tracks last week when a tummy bug hit the family. I THINK I know what I'm doing now so will open my account this week and transfer funds and hope that by then the shares will still be at a reasonable price!

Funky chic, did you manage to transfer your funds and buy your shares?

Bought some stuff in the Disney store this weekend and thought "if I'd sorted out my shares and membership I'd be getting a discount!!"

But only ten % so its not a huge loss but still its a pain :headache:
you'll be sorted soon :thumbsup2

hope ye are all better, we all had it here (including my niece who was only here on a night out!!). it took DS (2) a good month to come right cause he got a throat infection too :sad2: but i think thats all our illness out of the way in time for our DLP trip :wizard:

Hey Pretty P,

Yep, transfered the funds and bought the shares last week. Had no problems and went quite smoothly, thanks to all the advice from kizzabel! Just have to send the shareholders application form off now. Cant wait to get it and believe or not, I have yet to visit the Disney store in Dublin! But im gona wait till I get the card and then splash out a bit! :D

Hi, what is the minimum number of shares you have to buy to get a card and could I also buy extra shares in my sisters name through my account? Thinking of opening an account and getting some shares myself but think this would also solve Xmas present! Thanks.

the minimum is 5 shares to join the shareholders club, and pay 30 euros admin fee every 2 years to join and then renew your shareholders club membership. If you have 20 shares or more, you don't have to pay the admin fee of 30 euros.

the contract note is proof of your share holding, so it needs to be in your name for the shareholders club. Your sister would have to have her own account in her own name with the requisite number of shares in her name, to be able to get a shareholders membership card of her own.

Hi All,

After all my questions weeks and weeks ago a big spanner got thrown in the works when I had to go into hospital (nothing very serious, thank God) with the result that I only opened my account with FXCM 2 days ago. I opened an individual account as the only other options were Joint account or Corporate account.

Everything was going swimmingly until today when I tried to fund the account only to get a message saying that you had to fund the account with a minimum of 2,000 euro!!! Needless to say I do not have that kind of money to be throwing around!

I have sent FXCM a message asking about the small trades account which you mentioned Kizzabel as it was not an option on screen when I was opening my account. We'll see what they say.

Funky Chic, do you know the name of the account that you opened as you said you eventually got your shares ok?

Now I know why I have been afraid of this process for so long!!! :scared1: Sorry for bothering everyone again!!

Paula

Problem solved!! After a few e-mails back and forth with fxcm turns out although it does say a minimum of 2,000 on the site this does not apply to the individual account through sharewatch. The minimum for that account is 100 euro.

So lodged my 100 euro yesterday evening and when I checked this morning it was all there in my account so with great trepidation I went into the mybroker section to buy the shares. I entered all the details and then hovered over the button to place the order. I don't know if I thought the whole stock market would collapse if I'd done something wrong or what!!! Anyway I eventually clicked the button and a few minutes later I got an e-mail saying my shares had been purchased :yay:

It seems my hospital stint worked in my favour as the share price I got was 3.83 euro which is fantastic. 6 or 7 weeks ago when I was initially trying to do this it was about 4.90 and I thought that was a great price. Looking back on the history of the share prices it seems this time last year was also a low price, probably because they issue their profit/loss figures around this time and I think they announced they made a loss.

So because the minimum lodgement to the account was 100 euro I got 21 shares for that and then the commission fee of 14.95. I now have 4.62 left in my trading account so technically I could have bought 22 shares but I figured I should leave a bit of lee-way in case the share price jumped while I was placing my order. Anyway I'm not being greedy, I am extremely grateful as I know a lot of people paid up in the 8 or 9 euro range earlier this year.

BIG, BIG thank yous to kizzabel, dlpdaft, funky chick and everyone else who helped me with this purchase!!! I am so, so grateful. :thanks: And if you're reading this thinking of buying some shares yourself, yes it is daunting but it's not as hard as I thought and I am so thrilled that I now own a piece of my most favourite place on earth!! :hyper:

Thanks again, Paula

Hi PrettyP, glad you got it all sorted. I got my shareholders card there 2 weeks ago and it came very quick so hopefully you will get yours quickly! :D
