Problem solved!! After a few e-mails back and forth with fxcm turns out although it does say a minimum of 2,000 on the site this does not apply to the individual account through sharewatch. The minimum for that account is 100 euro.
So lodged my 100 euro yesterday evening and when I checked this morning it was all there in my account so with great trepidation I went into the mybroker section to buy the shares. I entered all the details and then hovered over the button to place the order. I don't know if I thought the whole stock market would collapse if I'd done something wrong or what!!! Anyway I eventually clicked the button and a few minutes later I got an e-mail saying my shares had been purchased
It seems my hospital stint worked in my favour as the share price I got was 3.83 euro which is fantastic. 6 or 7 weeks ago when I was initially trying to do this it was about 4.90 and I thought that was a great price. Looking back on the history of the share prices it seems this time last year was also a low price, probably because they issue their profit/loss figures around this time and I think they announced they made a loss.
So because the minimum lodgement to the account was 100 euro I got 21 shares for that and then the commission fee of 14.95. I now have 4.62 left in my trading account so technically I could have bought 22 shares but I figured I should leave a bit of lee-way in case the share price jumped while I was placing my order. Anyway I'm not being greedy, I am extremely grateful as I know a lot of people paid up in the 8 or 9 euro range earlier this year.
BIG, BIG thank yous to kizzabel, dlpdaft, funky chick and everyone else who helped me with this purchase!!! I am so, so grateful.

And if you're reading this thinking of buying some shares yourself, yes it is daunting but it's not as hard as I thought and I am so thrilled that I now own a piece of my most favourite place on earth!!
Thanks again, Paula
