Buying/Selling a House Support Thread

Sorry, but I've got a bee in my bonnet about incompetant estate agents. I've recently sold my house and their valuations were ridiculous. The first said "put it up for £137,500, and you'll be lucky to get £135,000". The second came up with £145,000, and the third £155,000. So I put it on the market with the third and told him to put it up for £162,500. He was amazed that I went against his valuation and told me that it wouldn't sell for that, AND that nobody had ever insisted that his vaulation was wrong. Yeah, right. It sold almost immediately. How on earth do these people keep their jobs. A difference os £27,500 is outrageous.

Phew, that's better. I'm glad I've got my rant of the day out of my system !

Well said. I'm exactly the same now.

That is a huge difference! We've done a fair bit of research since it went on the market and have rung around other estate agents when we have seen similar properties for sale. Our price does seem to be about right but I'm hoping that my dropping £5000 I'll encourage a quick sale. I'm getting anxious as we go away on holiday in 4 weeks time (to WDW) and I was really hoping to at least be in a position where surveys etc. could be done while we were away.

We've had an offer - £5,000 less than we had hoped but the people who own the bungalow have agreed to drop £5,000 so that we can get things moving. I'm really excited but apprehensive too as I know there are lots of things that could go wrong. I'm just trying to focus on how nice it will be if we move to the bungalow. However, as you will see from my countdown timer, I'm also trying to prepare for a holiday - not the best timing in the world.

Hey that's great

I seem to have a house obsession at the moment, am just buying my first flat.

Just think, despite the stress you have 2 things to look forward to, the bungalow AND a trip to WDW! :teeth:

I hope it all goes smoothly

Thanks Kaylee and Rachael.

Rachael - it looks like we will both be in WDW at the same time. We land back in the UK on Monday 30th June. We are staying in the Courtyard by Marriott in WDW - our 4th time there. Really like the hotel. I'm getting really excited now. I said to my husband that it will make coming home a little easier if we have the bungalow to plan for and look forward to. Good luck with the flat. I can remember our excitement when we first bought this house. Its such a wonderful feeling moving into your own home.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'll keep you posted.
