Buying rum in Nassau, what now?

I know DCL has a fairly new alcohol policy regarding what you can bring on board with you. If my DW and I want to buy a couple bottles of rum (if we find anything worth buying), we just "declare it" when on board and, from what I see, they lock away the liquor til debarkation? Wine/champagne and beer rules seem cut and dry. We just want to be sure it's not "looked down on" to bring souvenir bottles of rum back for a friend and ourselves as long as we hand it over for lock and key? Thank you!!

Exactly so. Any hard liquor you purchase in ports, will be held until debarkation morning (be sure to pick it up BEFORE you leave the ship).

And it's common practice and not frowned upon? Just don't wanna be one of "those people". Thank you for the input!

Well, "common practice" I don't know. I do know there were a lot of bottles waiting to be picked up at the "claim your liquor here" table on our last cruise.

I picked up 6 bottles and my two favorite bartenders were the ones handing them out. They asked me why I didn't buy more. :D

It is certainly not frowned upon..unless you are asking someone else to pay for your rum :) Then maybe I can see some frowning.

Seriously, we have bought rum in Jamaica right after the policy changed in 2015 and since then have bought tequila in Mexico as well as some whiskey in Tortola.
It is a super easy process to claim your liquor at the end of the cruise. They have a table set up with a few CMs to the right of the doors leaving. Quick, efficient and friendly.

Thank you so much for the information, and the offer to pay for our rum... I knew these blogs were a friendly and helpful place!

And remember, if you're flying home on one of the participating airlines and DCL gets your luggage to the airport for you, you need to keep a suitcase with you (to take off the ship yourself) to get your bottles home.

Shmoo said it right, but I want to stress it. The table is ON the ship, where you get off, but on our trip it was off to the side, and NOT well marked. I went over and got my bottles (which I declared when I got back on at the port, and they were happy to keep for me, many people did it), but I saw at least one person once we were off the ship and reclaiming our luggage say, "OK, where to I pick up my alcohol?" only to find out that he had missed the table. I don't know if he got his bottles, but I know they wouldn't let him back on the ship.

And I assume they don't let you get it at all before debarkation? Atleast I know we can purchase and have it kept safe

Right. Not until that morning. Leave a spot to put it in your carry-on or a place in your checked luggage a few minutes later if you are flying that day. In a way it is convenient. All of it is together, out of your hair, and if like you say, you are just looking for a good price on some unusual brands that you might not see in the states, then it works out great. I bought some rum and some tequila. Good prices. Brands I'd never seen in the states. Tasted good when I got a chance to try them back home. Can be good gifts too.

The unique brands are the main reasons. We have a good friend who's a bartender and this seemed like the best gift for him

Be aware, if it's Cuban rum you are looking for, it's becoming hard to find in ports. My friends who just got back from Jamaica found *one* bottle of Havana Club 3 all week, and we had to go to a local grocery store in Cozumel to find the Cuban rum I brought back. People are snapping it up as fast as they can while they can. Other friends who traveled to the ABCs over Christmas and New Years only found 4 bottles in all their travels.

I'd love to pick up some John Watlings in the Bahamas at some point, just to have something unavailable in the States for my fairly large rum collection.

If I am not mistaken, the Wonder had a duty free liquor shop...you buy now and collect as you get off the ship.
Not positive, but it may have been removed. I know the one on the Magic is gone.

I looked at the deck plans, where the duty free shop was is now Sea Treasures. But I think White Caps might have alcohol.
