Does anyone happen to know what the cost would be per point at BWV if we purchased directly through disney? The reason I ask, is my sister gets a 15% discount, so I'm wondering if it would still be cheaper to buy resale. thanks

i don't know know if an employee discount would apply to a resale.....

but as far as the cost through Disney I'm curious to that as well...i've heard that there are people currently waiting on points at Beach Club....don't know about Boardwalk.

anyone that can give an idea of prices would be greatly appreciated...

I just closed on a BCV's add on, there are not any Closing costs. I waited about 2 months for the amount of points and the Use year that I needed. I was told it would be a little longer, but it was sooner. Already made a reservation!

BCV $104.00

104 a point?

30-40 dollars more per poin than the initial price with 14 years shaved off the contract....

who says DVC isn't an investment?

We were trying to decide whether to buy BWV through Disney or TSS. I called our guide and he said $100/pp for 200 points, February UY and no closing costs. We decided to buy resale through TSS and purchased 200 points at $77/pp, February UY plus closing costs. We saved approx. $4,000 going through resale. Also, it passed ROFR and we just got our title work to complete yesterday.

There may be a restriction on where your sister can buy. Better find that out first.

Buying direct thru DVC can make sense if you are buying a contract with a UY that starts later in the year than your purchase. For example, someone buying a Dec UY now thru DVC would get 2007 points and then 2008 points in Dec. The extra points may make the cost of buying through DVC close to the cost of buying resale, especially a resale contract which is "stripped" and doesn't have points until Dec 2009. -- Suzanne

Very excellent point!! :thumbsup2

We bought a "stripped" contract. No points until 2009. However, it was exactly what we wanted. We are not going back to the World until 2010.

BUT if you did that would they let you bank them now with DEC UY banking window closed? I have a DEC UY and am looking to adding on at BWV.

Yes, $104.00 pp

This is what we did, we have a Oct UY, actually closed in Sept so we have 07 uy, 08uy it was a good move for us. What I didn't know was, I was still able to bank the points, with it being a new add on purchase. It worked out well.

The big advantage buying through Disney is that you get your points right away. when you do a resale, it takes 7 weeks. So you lose time to book. In any case you still may have to wait until you get the right contract or wait because you want points to sold out resorts. The only good news is that there are enough good resales that you could probably find one right away. That will cut down on waiting time.

I have never understood this. People are willing to pay a few thousand more for a contract just because that are impatient?

Guess I'm just cheap. :goodvibes

You are not cheap! You are just making a sound financial decision for you and your budget. It does cost you more and maybe some people have those extra few thousands to give up so that they can book sooner. But it's a lot of money to shell out just to get in to book maybe 3 months before someone buying a resale. There's definitely a lot of people who are not patient. Disney likes these kind of people !

When you buy an add-on directly from DVC, they will let you bank the current use year points regardless of deadline. This is NOT true if you buy resale! Another reason why buying direct may be better; what is the point of buying a resale December use year right now (unless current points are stripped) if it will be difficult (impossible?) to use the current points by the time you pass ROFR?!?

People often jump on the "resale is cheaper" bandwagon and that just simply is not always true. There are often benefits besides the obvious incentives to buying direct that have value, like the ability to bank points for actual use. Closing costs is another area that people seem to just forget about when calculating the total cost. This is especially true with small contracts because resellers charge a minimum for closing costs that generally the buyers pay. So an unstripped 30 point BWV contract for $95 per point seems like a great deal over DVC's direct cost of $104, until you add closing costs and it goes to $105.73 per point. Add December use year into the mix and now you really get screwed since you could have paid less AND banked the current year points if you bought direct.

:thumbsup2 So true when talking about smaller point packages.

If we were buying a stripped contract we would have the seller pay the closing costs. In fact on all of our resale buys we have had the seller pay 100% or at least 50% of the closing costs. Everything is negotiable on a resale. :)
