Buying Points to Change Room Type

We currently have a studio for the first night and a 1 bedroom for the next 4 nights. This is the points we had available.

We are thinking about switching the studio to the 1 bedroom for the first night by buying the additional points needed. We would need 15.

1. Is this possible? (assuming that the room was available?)
2. If not available, we can be waitlisted and then if it became available, they would cancel the studio and add on the 1 bedroom, correct?
3. Techincally they are 2 seperate reservations. So if the 1 bedroom was switched for the first night, what do we have to do to gurantee that we will stay in the same room. (1 of the reasons why we want to upgrade, so we dont have to wait until the 1 bedroom is available after the 1st night)

Any thoughts or tips you can provide would be very helpful. This is our first stay as a DVC member!

3. if these are both point stays the only thing that has to happen is to have them linked by MS

So we would have to buy the points first then be put on waitlist?
Can we waitlist and then buy points?

If we can't do option 2, we can't make a cash reservation and then switch to a point reservation correct?

Your reservation has to be at the 7 month mark to purchase. So I do not know if you can use the points if you made this more than 7 months out.

Actually, the one time use points thing is so new, I'm not sure.
I suspect you have to have the points prior to waitlisting, MS clearly would know for sure.

According to the member's website the "one time use" points can't be applied retroactively to an existing reservation and are not available for waitlist reservations. Here are the details from the site:

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.

Details:

• One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
  
• You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
  
• A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
  
• The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
  
• One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
  
• One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
