Buying pin lots from eBay?

This is Darlene and Nena. We have a good supply of pins for your traders.

Oh, and thanks for all the kind words.

I twice now have bought pin lots off of Ebay, and went through every last one of them and checked them with pinpics... I received maybe two fakes that had been traded to that person out of a lot of 100, each time. I only buy from one seller though.

What is a rack pin vs. a lanyard pin? I found a definition of rack pin as open edition pin but no definition of lanyard pin. Thanks, Robin

What people call lanyard pins are what used to be called the Cast Lanyard Series pins. These were pins produced by Disney that weren't for sale in any location in Walt Disney World. This was done to promote pin trading. You could only obtain the pin by trading for it either with a Cast member or another trader. Disney would randomly spread these pins out to refresh Cast Member pin trading lanyards throughout the property. This is now officially referred to as the Hidden Mickey Series of pins.

Thank you for the definition. Now I can learn from PinPics whether or not I traded for junk. At least I won't be trying to trade bad pins in the future.
And I will know what to look for in future trades in May 2008.

Okay- help me out- how do I find out if I have a fake?

I have bought alot of traders via e-bay through various lots.

You can check your pins on PinPics. The scrappers usually have visible defects, like weird coloring (I had a pin where Snow White looked faintly green). Counterfeits will have inaccurate back stamps or other much more subtle variations. Other things to stay away from are scratched finishes or metal that feels much lighter (almost like plastic).

We just came home from WDW and we have several pins that I am pretty sure are fake. I haven't had time to check them, though. On the "boards" section of PinPics there is a comparison forum where people post real and fake pins side by side with the differences numbered so you can see what's wrong with the fakes. Of course these differences are very hard to see with the naked eye - they are much more apparent when you have a real one right beside the fake.
