DH and I arrive this Sat w/ my sister, husband and 2 sons. We will be in a two-bedroom together. DH and I will purchase an AP, will my sister's family be able to purchase park tickets also at check-in ?
Keep in mind buying tickets on site is more expensive. If you can I would either buy at the Disney Store of from a broker. The extra money can buy dinner one night
Also keep in mind that if your guests want Ultimate Park Hoppers (Length-of-stay passes), you can only get the DVC discount (10%) if these are purchased at check-in. When I did the math myself, this is better than the pre-purchase price if you want these passes, and you can eliminate days (check in/out date) when you purchase at the resort.
This is probably the best deal if they're not planning on going back to WDW as far as they know, since these passes are only good for the length of your stay. However, if they do plan to ever go back, they're probably better off getting Park Hoppers or Park Hopper Plus passes at a local Disney Store before you head out.
sorry if this is silly, but we just purchased last month and are planning our first visit in feb.
i sort of figured it made sense to buy the 5/6/7 day hopper passes and even though we were only staying 4 days we could just save them for use on future trips.
so my questions are:
1--can i buy tickets through dvc for more days than i am staying this trip??? and
2-- what is the alternative to buying from dvc (with the 10% discount) and is it a better deal?

We buy the 7 day hopper from paramount. It includes 4 plus features and a free character breakfast including tip & Tax. This seems to be the best deal. Since we go regularly, we will often encourage guests to buy this and we "buy the extra days" from them and take their passes at the end. (OK, I'm hiding....I know "non-transferable pass", but at the end I don't even know which is really mine we keep them all together).
I personally don't like LOS because if you don't go in the park one day it is gone forever, we really lost out this way with a sick child once. It's hard enough sitting in the room in Disney, it is worse when you know it is costing you $200+.
I went to the link you posted, but I couldn't find any info on the 7 day PHP including a character breakfast. Can you tell me how to get that? I think this would make it a great value!!
For some reason they are not allowed to post the breakfast coupon. I ordered over the phone just to be sure but was told it is always included. Saved us approx. an addition$30 pp adding in the tip and tax to the breakfast cost.
5infam ,
Last year, Disney asked folks to fax a copy of the coupon/voucher "to make sure it was valid" for CRT. They used the CC only as a guarantee. (You would be charged only if you were a no-show).
This year, I was told the procedure is that they charge everyone the deposit. If you use a coupon/voucher, they will refund the money when you go to the breakfast and present the coupon (or if you cancel within the time parameters). I was not able to get ressies for CRT, so I can not verify if it is difficult to get the refund (or if they actually do charge the deposit if you tell them you are using a coupon/vouher).
This is one more thing to remember when making the CRT ressie .
Thank you both for the info!!! I hope I am able to get a ressie for CRT when the time comes, and since I was going to buy 7 day php's for our 10 night trip next year, this is an added bonus!!!

To answer these questions, the only pass there is a DVC discount on is the Length of Stay pass - currently the Ultimate Park Hopper. When I did my price comparison spreadsheet, the DVC Discount on the UPH came out to be a better deal than getting a regular hopper - but as another poster mentioned, to get your money's worth, you really need to go to parks every day of your UPH.
You can buy regular Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus passes from the Disney Store or online to get the advance purchase discount - these aren't discounted for DVC. There are other online ticket sellers that often have these passes for less than Disney.
One note about the DVC discount at Disney Stores - every time I've used it to purchase non-discounted items (so far, Disney Dollars) along with other discounted items on the same check, they've just rung up the 10% discount at the end - giving me discounts on my Disney Dollars! Now, I only purchased $40 at the time, and the manager was training a new CM on how to ring them up so I'm sure it wasn't a normal thing. I seriously doubt they'd forget something like that when buying passes or hundereds of dollars of Disney Dollars, but it doesn't hurt to try having them ring everything up at once.
I was going to suggest the AP too. With DVC, we like to plan our trips just under 365 days apart, so we can use an AP for a minimum of 2 trips. For example, we go mid January on a new AP one year and early January on the same AP the next year. We tend to go for 10+ days each trip, so we always have at least 20 days on our AP. It really brings the park costs down. Of course, if you don't go to the parks every day, that wouldn't help. We aren't pool people, so we go to the parks every day. Sometimes it might be only for a short while, or just for a specific show or dinner, but we like the option. After all, if I am staying in Disney World, I might as well do Disney World!
