We have hard case luggage and it is just too heavy now w/ the new airline restrictions. We have two small kids. Anyone have any suggestions on what size to buy? Also, if anyone has a brand that they really like or if you know of any great deals, I would love to hear them too!

Do you have a Costco membership? We bought a pretty nice set of luggage there - 3 pc that nest for $100. They are expandable and pretty lightweight. We've taken a couple of trips with them so far (by air) and they are holding up well. I believe it's Skyway brand, looks similar to this set here.

We just bought new luggage at Ross if you have one nearby. Also sometimes Kohls will have a really good deal. I really like the luggage we just got it is made by Ricardo Beverly Hills seems to be of good quality I would probably never pay full price for it because I'm "cheap" but it is nice, sturdy and very lightweight.

Sams had a four piece samsonite set that I got 4 years ago, and It's still going stong with MANY flights taken with it. I don't know if they have the same set now, but I know they have 3 or 4 different selections.

I second Ross or T.J. Maxx. I bought some at one of those stores that was listed as "lightweight" and they have held up quite well and were not very expensive.

Now with baggage weight limits at 50lbs and most airlines charging for even the first checked bag you have to find the happy medium. Maximizing cargo space vs. staying below the 50lb limit (figuring returning with souvenirs) vs. keeping the number of bags to a minimum. My wife and I have 2 young boys and we are able to pack for all 4 of us in a larger rolling soft side and a large duffel bag. She is free to push the stroller and carry a backpack (carry-on) and I pull the rolling soft side with the duffel stacked on top. I've found the duffels that come in most luggage sets are not heavy-duty enough to stand up to carosels, airline bag throwers, etc so mine is of heavy canvas.
