Buying My Own Magic Band and Customization?

We customized our bands online, the ones Disney will be shipping in a few months. Everybody selected a Disney character name instead of our real names. Snow, Dopey, Happy, Bashful, Prince, Grumpy, etc.

We just found the magic bands you can buy on the shop app and I think most of us want one of those. I know we have to associate them with our accounts online and assign them to the correct person, but I am wondering if we can still customize them or will they automatically read as Ryan, Kassie, Ty, etc?

Those kinds of bands will not come with a name on them at all as far as I know. You can assign them to anybody on your MDE, but there is nothing printed on the bottom. Those names are basically only there so you know who's is who's when the box comes.

The name you customize on the bottom of your resort/AP MB are just for fun, just for you. No one else sees that and it's not in the computer. When you scan your MB anywhere at Disney it will come up with your real name associated with your ticket/reservation.

How long has it always been this way? Last time we went, I think 2 years ago, we did mom, dad, sis, etc and that is what popped up on their computer screen at ride entry.

Maybe someone can jump in but I've never heard this. I know when they came out it was discussed often enough that the nickname was just for you.

We did this once and the cm still saw our DME names, recently we played a trick on my nephew and put a nickname on his band and again the cm called him by his real name (if anything). Most of the time I just put our initials and a number corresponding to the trip date so I can keep track of older vs newer bands, even with the initials and date a CM at Pandora commented on my dd's name as it was his dd's name and a bit unique.

OP - there will be no name in a band purchased but the info can be linked in your DME to your DME profile.

Are you sure? As far as I know it's always been whatever it says on your MDE account.

I have bands named/themed after Breaking Bad & Sons of Anarchy and have only seen my actual name pop up.

I've never heard of CM's seeing what you "customize" your band as
