Buying more Points Question

Currently my husband & I have 160 points at the AKV. We know that as our family grows, we will need more points. Our question is this...when you buy more points, do you have those for 50 yrs or from the date of your original contract? We would most likely just purchase an additional 40 points at AKV. Also, is it smart to buy additional points during the same Use Year as your original points? Thanks for an advice!

If you buy additional points, they will expire when the resort's points expire. If you wait 10 years to buy more points at AKV, those points will also expire in 2057.

If you purchase additgional points from DVC, they will be in your original use year. If you purchase additional points from a reseller, those points may be in any use year, but it is more convenient to keep the original use year (for banking deadlines)

The "life" of your contract has nothing to do with when you buy your points. Everyone's contracts at a particular resort "expire" at the same time (except maybe with OKW).

If you do add-on less than 160 points, it will always be in the same UY you already have. My recommendation is to stick with the UY you have and keep all your points under the same membership number.

Also, you can add-on at any DVC resort, and not just at the one you initially purchased. So, you could do a 40 point add-on at BWV, for example. Of course, BWV expires sooner than AKV.
