I THINK This belongs here. If we wanted to save some money (staying in a resort) would it be worth doing a grocery order even without a fridge? IE, is it worth ordering bagels or cereal and then just buying milk or some spread from the resort food hall? We're staying in POP.

Thanks

We did it last year at pop, but not a grocery order. We stopped at the grocery store on the way to the airport and bought a few things for pre breakfast (snacks for the kids to eat before travelling to character breakfasts)

We bought apples, bananas
Granola Bars
Bear Paws
ind. apple sauce
juice boxes

We had 4 in the room and I'm not sure we would have had space to put anymore food so I'm glad that is all we brought.

There's 3 adults in our room but we're flying in from the UK so we won't have a car to get to a grocery store - hence the reason I'm debating an order. Think we can do one for about $47 (min including delivery charge) that delivers to the hotel. Thought it might save us some as we're there for 11days. We've got 3 breakfasts booked and 2 dinners but that's all and I think the DDP would be more expensive for us. Was just debating getting some cereal, croissants, apples, etc and just buying the milk.

We always have breakfast food in the room. It helps us get out in the morning. I have stopped at goodings or winn dixie when we have had a car. Last trip (Poly) we used we go shop and placed the order via phone. I was very satisfied. We ordered 2 half gallons of milk as they fit on the door of the fridge. I ordered coffee creamer too. When we ran out of milk, we purchased it in the gift shop using snack credits. We were able to get a liter size milk for snack which was better than the little carton at the quick service.

We go shop? That a website?

We can't order that much milk cause we won't have a fridge in the POP rooms and to hire one is about $10 a day, which I think will cancel our savings.

You could pack some cereal and boxed snacks in you luggage and bring it with you and then just buy milk at the resort.

Milk was a bit cheaper at the Gift Shop than at the Food Court. At least that was the case at ASSp.

good idea although I'm not certain we can when flying from overseas...they can be funny about stuff like that. Humm.

Thank you, useful to know!

If ordering food to be delivered, I would suggest a case of bottled water as well. That always is a big savings for us. We do drive so we bring our own but if ordering to you room it will help. We have also toasted our own bagels/bread in the food court as well as made instant oatmeal there too.

That's a good idea. Can you buy butter/spread etc there too? Or something to put on the bagels?

I think they sell peanut butter as well as the bagels, bread and other items. Most items in the resort store are high except the prepriced items. Those are as priced, so bread and prepackaged bread items are the price marked. In the food court there is jelly/butter type spread and a toaster and microwave. I think in the food court there are peanut butter and cream cheese packets for sale but costly for what they are, but probably still cheaper than buying the bagel or whatever in the food court.

When we stayed value, we did this all the time. I also got a jug of milk and put it in the garbage can in the room and filled it with ice to keep it cold. (we stored it in the tub so we didn't make a mess). We would add ice in the am before we left and when we got back in the pm. Worked like a charm!

Thank you!

You're welcome! If you end up ordering from a grocery store, you should get granola bars and cereal bars as well. You might want to just bring that type of item since they don't take up much space (the space that you will have to bring back items in your suitcase) I would just put them in a zip lock and bring them along with instant oatmeal type cereal.

Oooh hadn't considered that idea. Good thinking!

That's a good idea too, thank you. I'll put a few in my case.

You could bring one of those soft coolers that fold up and put ice in that, too. I wouldn't use a garbage can. THere is also a thread about free refrigerators that can be gotten. I can't recall the name of it but it may be on the budget boards. It's some type of swap.

oooh hadn't heard of that! I've just searched and while there isn't one free the whole time, there is one free (I think) in the middle part of my holiday (about half the holiday time). Which could still be useful! Thanks

Well if you are ordering food they may also carry those cheap foam coolers. They are usually just a few dollars and you can just trash it when you are done with it. That way you can keep your milk and some drinks cool.

I like to pack food, the space it takes is the space I use to bring home souvies. Also, there is a thread for fridge swapping at the values. You can see all the details and check if your dates are available and is a great way to get yourself a fridge at a value. You can also use dry powdered milk or shelf-stable milk (only needs refrig. after opening but is avail. in small packages that could be used up upon opening.)

Hope this helps.
