Buying Magic Bands

Has anyone bought magic bands in the parks lately? I am wondering if they still make you link it to you ticket right away?

There is a place on MDE now where you can link a magic band to your account manually.

I was hoping to get a band for my DFIL. He is the only one of our party that will not have a band when we get there. I have all the other bands painted out for everyone in my party and I would love to do his too.

I don't know this for sure, but I think you can buy a band and not link it. I was under the impression that you picked up the bands at Guest Relations, but that's not the case. When I picked up a park ticket for my daughter at Downtown Disney Guest Relations I asked about getting a band. They had me go to the pin trading store, where there were tons of bands on sale for about $12. In our case, we did give the ticket we had just picked up and had it linked to the band, but I would think you could get the band and not link it. Not sure if you can do it thru mail order though.

They must be linked at the time of purchase.

You can't purchase MagicBands by mail order.
