Buying Luggage?

Have you checked Target recently? 2-3 weeks ago I bought a 5 piece set of luggage for $63 on clearance. 28", 24", 21" another smaller carry on and a toiletry bag. Not sure if they would still have, but even so they have sets that are under $100 when not on clearance, but I was too cheap.

Check Target and Wal-mart they have 5 luggage set for under a 100.00 .

If you don't mind electronic shopping, check the websites for QVC and HSN (Home Shopping Network).

Sometimes they have what you need at the price you want. Don't forget to calculate sales tax for your area and S&H into the total.

I have to apologize in advance, I'm hijacking the thread a bit! LOL! But to make it up, I saw sets of American Tourister at kmart.com and walmart.com for under $100 (some well under $100)

OK, back to hijacking. I've been looking for luggage myself - but I want just single suitcases. If I can only get them in a reasonably priced set, that's OK but what I REALLY need are two large expandable suitcases so if anyone happens to see a good deal on single pieces PLEASE let me know. I have a probably VERY stupid question that I'm hoping someone that runs across this can help me out with. I'm trying to figure out the size thing. The largest I can find at most store sites is 29" (I've seen one at 30") I'm trying to picture a suitcase in my head but it's not working out, LOL!! Anyone know if that would be a pretty big sized suitcase? I never really paid attention to the size when I bought sets before - I just paid attention to the size in comparison with the other pieces. I don't want to order a 29" and find it's the size I already have, not the bigger one I need.

I'm so bad at estimating dimensions. But yeah, if anyone happens to know if that's one of the biggest sizes you can get, please jump in and tell me I'm not crazy. That's all I can find, LOL!

I agree...Target could be your best bet...I got this same type set there two weeks ago for $32.98...Can't beat that!!!! I have noticed Kohl's and JC Penney have been running alot of sales, too! Good luck!

Target has its Eddie Bauer Polaris and Rainier style luggage on clearance for 50-75% off. In my area, it is only 50% off but I have read on another board of other people finding it at their Targets for 75% off. This is good quality luggage. I have purchased some of their other styles on clearance and have been pleased with their durability and workmanship. I believe that the Polaris style is expandable. The large suitcase (26'') was on clearance for about $65 (from $130). Target also has other travel items on clearance at 50-75% off including toiletry bags, belt bags, luggage tags, luggage straps, travel irons, and travel hairdryers.

I would suggest you think twice about the 29" piece of luggage. One it may be too big for your airline. Check the websites of airlines you fly, if your luggage is too big you will be charge extra.

Also, it is VERY easy for a piece that big to exceed the 50 lb limit on lots of airlines. Extra charges average $50 per overweight bag. Two smaller would be better.

I got a 4 piece set at K's Merchandise last fall for $89....pretty good quality and the plus is they all have straps to piggy back each other. I could strap all 3 rolling ones together and then strap my carry on and laptop on the top and pull one convienient "blob"....worked VERY well.

I totally agree!!!! We had 29", on our trip in Dec of 2000, and one of them exceeded the 70lb weight limit (at that time) when we came home with the souveniers. They were also way too big to even manage easily. We sold them on e-bay and bought the same bags in the 26" size. Much better size. The 29" are also difficult to get in anything but a large minivan or an SUV.

We saw some good sales on luggage at McRaes plus there was an extra 15% coupon in their Sunday sale ad. We bought a good quality 22" rolling bag for $9.

The 29" and larger can be difficult to remove from the luggage carousels, as well. I have a 29" wardrober that I love, but my rule of thumb is that if I can't pick it up and carry it at least 6 feet, it's too heavy! So far, the weight has topped out at 48.5 lbs., usually about 45 lbs.

Upper body srength is not my strong suit!

I have two huge ones from our honeymoon trip I paid $100 EACH! yikes!! I know they are much bigger than 29" too cuz the new biggest one is 28" and isn't near that size lol. anyhow I have opted for smaller ones this trip due to the new weight limits I mean I packed my big with oranges on top of my clothes etc. I had to roll my clothes to get all my stuff home and that was prekids lol. Anyhow with the new weight limits I'll have my oranges shipped lol. and I'm taking 4 check in's. I got a 5 piece set on sale at a Store called Shopko! they were 40% off. anyhow I paid $90 for the set and its EXCELLENT quality!! Anyhow I got a larger 28" a 25" a 21" 16" rolling tote! and a carry on type tote and still yet makeup bag kit which is a good size!!! I'm using the 4 larger ones. Hoping to keep the 25" for our souveniers so far not going that well and it all needs to be packed tonight lol. anyhow I shopped everywhere Kohl's was too expensive, I thought walmarts quality wasn't very good. Mine are all on wheels with retractable handles! Can't wait to go tomorrow! our flight takes off at 2:30 pm!! Good luck finding your luggage!!

Oddly enough I saw nice American Tourister pieces in Staples over the weekend on clearance for $30.00 26" and 19.00 for smaller pieces. So that could fit the bill plus it is good quality

Target has four piece sets for $14.98 (75% off) they had quite a few sets. Also had Eddie Bauer which was a little more but probably better quality. We travel quite a lot and our "cheapy" set of luggage has outlasted our Samsonite.

I went to JCPenney today and bought the 5 piece protocol brentwood set of lugguge today for 92.00 total. Now I'm just waiting for the time to start packing!! :hourglass

Woohoo! Congratulations! :)

You could start packing travel-only things--it you're really impatient! ;)

I must be a luggage snob because the words "good set" and "under $100" just don't go together in my brain!

Our family travels a lot and my husband lives out of his suitcase 4-5 out of 7 days a week. We spent way more than $100 per piece for a 20" carry-on size bag. The 24" checkable bag was even more.

I guess if you don't travel a lot, then any set will be the same. Get a set with the features you like. However, if you plan on traveling a lot you'd be penny wise and pound foolish to buy a cheap set which will break on the 4th or 5th trip.
