Buying goofy items at the food courts (specifically POP Century)

I have heard of people buying bread, but what else can you get like that?

I'm specifically thinking about a slice of cheese. They use cheese to make cheeseburgers; so, can I buy a piece of cheese alone?

Also, I'm interested in a side of mash potatoes which I know are available with whole meals like when they do the momma dinners (mash potatoes and meatloaf, for example).

What if you want a slice of tomato?

Is everything up for sale as long as it's being served on a day?

Almost definitely on the mashed potatoes, but what's the deal with the slice of cheese and slice of tomato? Maybe you should pick up a small grocery order at the Hess station.

I have purchased side orders, they even have them listed on some of the boards. I would venture the guess that they DO NOT sell a single slice of cheese or a tomato. These items are used in fixing other meals, but are not separate in the computers if purchasing items. Could you buy a cheeseburger and ask for the cheese and tomato on the side, I am sure you can, and it would all be priced in with the listed price of the cheeseburger.

So if you are bringing items for sandwiches or to supplement, you can purchase off the top of my head:

peanut butter
cream cheese
fruit and cheese
small salad and break it up for sandwiches
soup
hummus
veggie sticks
and at breakfast, you could get an extra order of bacon if you wanted that.

Please note all of the above are not free. You would be charged for them.

I recognize the OP from the "What's free at the food courts?" thread. It's all starting to make sense now.

I already had flashbacks of my college days in that thread. Ramen sandwiches and tomato soup made with ketchup and water. :rotfl:

but I was wrong. I really can find out what I need to know once I'm there. I was just getting a heads up.

I have a mom that gums her food and cheese is something she can eat easily. I won't have a car; so, I'm depending on the food court for some simple sandwiches for my mom. I already know I can get peanut butter and cream cheese.

For those who helped I thank you.

For the thread cops I honestly believe you should leave this up to the moderators of these boards.

If you wanted to know more you could of asked and not just assume the worse.

I'd be willing to have my mom eat lobster every night at Narccossee's, but that will not work. She's a poor eater to begin with and she is a picky eater, also. I'm trying to have options for her.

I need to pick carefully for my mom too - her dementia includes swallowing issues (common with this sort of problem). I often look over then menus on www.wdwig.com and look for things like meatloaf and fish - softer foods, which often I have to spoon feed to her, but whatever it takes right?!

I can't help you specifically with the food court at POP never having stayed there, but looking at the menu for lunch dinner at pop

it strikes me that perhaps the tuna salad sandwich, Hummus, Blacken fish sandwich might be options for you.

If you went to one of the resorts that has a DVC associated with it, you might find more grocery type items for your Mom. You might be able to get cheese there. And I know they sell full loaves of bread and possibly some mayo for easy cheese sandwiches.
On the Resorts Boards, some of the DVC resort threads have pictures of what's available in the way of groceries at the gift shops.
It sounds like you're staying at Pop so you won't have a fridge but I think you can get a styro cooler in the Pop gift shop. Just keep it filled with ice for any cold items you have.

When I was a kid, I didn't like peanut butter (still don't) my alternative was cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. Yum!

While you're still at home and have a meal at some place like Panera, they have condiments in plastic packets for your sandwich. They don't need to be refrigerated.

I appreciate your suggestions.

All good ideas - and yes I can attest that the DVC resort stores do sell packages of sliced cheese.

I never would have thought of this at all. Maybe, I can combine a trip there with a dinner, too.

OP, I am sorry that a few are harassing you. Fortunately there are more helpful people than hurtful people on the boards, so stick with it and ignore those that say hurtful things.

I think it is wonderful you are taking your elderly mother to WDW. Wish I could've took mine. She too had no teeth but she would "gum" anything to death if she wanted it. LOL, she was in a healthy state of mind though. Dementia is a hard thing to battle, my brother has it and it isn't fun.

Sorry I can't help with your direct questions. But you may get more assistance in the disabilites forum. They discuss everything from temporary issues to permanent diseases like your moms. They also know expert advice on foods at WDW and where, how to get them. I am sure if you are specific with your questions and tell them about your mom, someone will be able to offer a bit more direct information than maybe some of us.

Oh and I forgot, since you are staying at POP you might want to think of which decade your mom would like. We love POP and it is so much fun to stay in the decade when you were a kid. Brings back many happy memories. I don't know how old your mom is, but she might have a bit fun if you stay in one of the older decades. Of course I assume you are staying preferred to be close to the main building and buses. You can still request a certain decade and the 60's, 70's and 50's have preferred rooms. Might help her state of mind a bit to be around all that nostalgia.

I wish you well on your trip, enjoy it and your mom!! :flower3:

The folks on the Disabilities board are just great for this kind of advice, Bete.

One of the easiest DVC resorts to get to might be Bay Lake Tower. The Fantasia Market is actually in the Contemporary, so you don't need to get into Bay Lake. And it is on the fourth floor, the Contempo Cafe is very close if you wanted to try to get a meal there. When you are done, you can monorail back to the MK to get your bus back to Pop.

If you are using an ECV or able to walk a bit, it is a pretty quick walk from the MK to the Contemporary.

Good luck with your Mom. It sounds like quite a challenge but she is lucky to gave a daughter willing to take her!

Can I mention one more thing here? OK two things....LOL

Don't ALL the resort stores now carry grocery items? I swear I've seen packages of sliced cheese and stuff at Port Orleans and places like that, no?

Another option might be having a few small groceries delivered by gardengrocer or some place like that. I can see though how you might have to play it day by day with your moms food desires each day so maybe that wouldn't work.

Have fun with your mom. It's so neat that you're doing this with her! I hope everything goes smoothly for you and that you make some wonderful memories.

Here is what I would do. I would try to order/buy what you think will work for your mom. If the CMs can't sell it that way, I would speak to one of the managers in the food court and explain the situation. My guess is that they will be more than happy to make it work out for you...even if they have to give a way a piece of cheese. ;) Good luck.

Boy shows how out of it I am. I thought by your title you wanted to buy
'Goofy' (character) products and I was checking to see what they sold.......since I'm contemplating a POP stay.

Not sure what your Mother's likes and dislikes are but Oatmeal, eggs, yogurt are all easy to chew and easy on the digestive system. Of course you have that old standby 'ICE CREAM'! Which my 90 year old father would eat every day if he could. Not because he can't eat whatever he wants (some things that I sure can't eat) but just because he loves ice cream!

Good luck finding what she likes, above all else make sure she stays hydrated!

Though I know noodles/pasta can be a little firm and may not be a good option in this specific case. . .

My husband asked last year if he could just have noodles and alfredo sauce (and no chicken or meatballs) and they happily gave it to him. . .and there was a 'button' for it on the register.

I agree. WDW will go out of there way to make sure your mom is taken care of. How hard could it be to get a piece of cheese???I would expect to pay for it, it might not be cheap, but I would not be surprise if they would not just give you a piece as long as you are all ordering meals there anyway.

I asked on another board, too and I think I'll bring my own bread and cheese from home. Both can be frozen. I have a WOW storage system that can actually fit bread. I'll use an insulated bag for the cheese and a few other items. I can get ice and cheese will fit in the ice bucket. I'll make something work.

Then, if anything gets spoiled or whatever I'll have the choices, here. I'm thinking of ordering some kid meals that may work for her, as well.

Thanks everyone and it's tough getting old; let me tell you.
