Is there no way at all to buy into GFV outside the US? This is driving me nuts!

Also, does anyone know what are the number of studios, 1BR villa, 2 BR villa's available in each of the resorts? I just want to know how small GFV is compared to for example BCV.

Outside of the US depends on local and Florida Timeshare law. Some places you can and others you can't.

California hasn't granted a license for VGF yet so Guides at DL are not allowed to even talk about VGF.

Anyone from anywhere outside the US to have experience with this? I could easily go to the UK from here and sign the papers there....

DVC has to have a licence to sell timeshare in your country, I'm in Ireland and they don't have a licence here so I couldn't just pop over to the UK and sign a contract in another jurisdiction. The only way I can buy direct is to actually be in Florida and sign the papers there. We did this with BLT but all our other contracts are resale. We were just lucky that BLT was released for sale at a time we would be in Florida.

If you're an existing DVC member you can speak to your guide and lock in the $145 price and sign contracts when you're next in Florida but that would probably only work if you had a vacation planned in the next few months. I'd speak to your guide and go from there.

When I called, they told me that if for example I'd go to New York on holiday, they could fedex me the papers there and I'd simply need to take it to a notary there. So I'm wondering if it wouldn't just be the same for the UK.

I wonder if that's because they have DVC sales centres there? Best bet would be to give your guide a call to clarify it and perhaps let us know the answer

I called again and this is what they said. They can indeed sell direct to people in the UK. For this you need a UK address to have them sent the paperwork to. You then have to be in the UK to sign them (at a notary's????) and send them back. If your address is not in the UK, you will first need to have your address of your existing membership changed to the UK (otherwise you can't buy at the membership rate), then once the contract is closed, you can change the address again. Change of address is free.

Now the part of signing it at a notary seemed a bit strange to me. Has anyone (US or UK) ever bought not at a DVC site and how did it practically go? They sent you the papers and then? Did you just sign or did you effectively need to go to a notary and if so, how much did that part cost you? Thanks!!

The laws and requirements are different in each country/jurisdiction. This is a real estate transaction and it is subject to the new post 9/11 real estate purchase laws.

I understand that, but it could be nice to hear from anyone who bought in the UK to tell me concretely what the different steps were for them.

I'm in Canada so not sure if it's the exact same as UK but we did our purchase of VGF remotely too.
I'm waiting for the papers still.
When they arrive I'll take them to my lawyer, sign them in front of him and have him notarize it. Did my BLT contract the same way and it cost me nothing. Not sure if he'll charge me this time. I think it would be like $50 if he does charge me.

I have done a couple of real estate purchases that were all handled by mail/fax and a notary is to make sure that the signature is made by the real person and is not a forgery. For the notary to put their stamp (which is like witnessing the transaction), you'd have to sign it in front of him/her. Otherwise, what's the point? :)

In the US, banks can notarize so I normally get them for free at my bank.
