Buying from Disney and then adding resale points.

Hey all! My wife and I are thinking about buying the minimum points from Disney, I believe its 160 points. We are only thinking of buying through Disney to get the added benefits. If down the line we were to purchase an additional 100 points through a resale would those additional points be limited with where and what we can use them for? Thanks in advance!

Yes the original direct points would only be able to be used for the Disney collection, cruise line, etc. The resale ones would be limited to DVC properties and RCI exchanges.

But at some point, all your points are going to be equal if they decide to set up a tiered membership. More points, you get to use your points differently.

But, in reality, the perks you get for buying direct, don't really justify the excessive cost of buying direct.
