Do you know - is there anyway you can pay for a plane ticket directly out of your checking account online, or do you have to use a credit card?

If you have a debit card with Visa/MC logo on it, you can use that.

I would caution that doing so can be risky if your airline goes under. Using a credit card to purchase your ticket gives you more protection if the airline stops flying like Southeast did a couple of months ago.

You may be able to have it directly deducted from your account by calling, but I have not seen a web site that offers this option.

Good luck.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but if you have a debit card with a Visa or Mastercard affiliation, you can use that. If the card is tied into your checking account, the monies will be deleted directly from the account. I do it frequently, but have not had the opportunity to do it for airline tickets yet.

The thought just occurred to me that the debit card may not offer as much protection in a transaction such as this. I would double-check. With the airlines going through such rough times, you don't need the headache of being caught unawares. I love my debit card (it keeps me honest during my shopping sprees!), but in this case, it might not be prudent.

The debit cards I have offer the same protection as my credit cards. But the thing you have to watch is what is the daily limit on your debit card. When I have to purchase a large amt. like tickets I call the bank first so it isn't refused and I don't get the tickets.
