We will be going to Disney in July and want to go to Universal/Islands of Adventure for one day. I was looking at ticket prices online and was also planning on buying the express pass plus. I noticed that with the pass it makes you choose a day that it is good for.

What has been your experience with buying these ahead of time? What if the weather is bad that day? And do you also have to pick a date for the regular admission tickets?

I never recommend purchasing Express Plus passes ahead of time. They are date specific and non-refundable. You would be wise to wait until you arrive to decide if you want to purchase. Plus...if you're there early enough, you can do several of the larger attractions...in whatever park you choose...w/o much of a wait.

We'll be there 3 days after the grand opening of WWOHP - would you recommend pre-buying the express pass in this scenario?

I would still wait because most of the people will probably head to WWoHP first thing. If you're there at opening, you should still be able to do some attractions w/o the EP and I'm not sure The Forbidden Journey will accept the EP at this point. So you would be buying the EP for the other attractions.

My wife and I have been having this same discussion. She wants to buy the pass and I'm not sure. The only attraction we really care about (not first time to Universal) is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. She was just reading a review the stated the Que is and hour, all interactive in different rooms, before you get to the ride. Now add the wait to get to the Que.
She might win this one, if we don't get the pass it will be the only thing we do all day. I start looking for a part time job tomorrow. Tough is a state with 12.7% unemployment.

My DH and I went last year and bought them there...well one really for IOA...they told us to save our money cause we wouldn't that day at US...and they were right!

Do you have to stand in the same line to buy the express pass that you do to buy the admission ticket?

You can purchase the Express Plus passes inside both parks at any number of stores so you won't have to wait in line.

We actually decided not to be there on opening day as it might be a wee bit crazy - our flight lands on opening day, 7am :)

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll probably wait to get the express once we're there, especially if we can buy it from any store within the park itself.
