Buying DVC

We are thinking of buying some DVC points at Vero Beach. I contacted Disney for some general information but because I am in Ireland they can't give me any info over the phone or by mail The only way I could get any info from them is to visit in person.

I know that because I want Vero Beach it will have to be a resale so I was wondering if anyone has bough DVC this way and how easy (or hard) was it?

There are many people who've bought DVC resales through reputable resale brokers, and I've heard of very few problems with the transactions. The only one I can remember is when the resale came through with a lot less points available than had been promised (correct number of point sin the contract, just not as many available to use that year). The broker made up the shortfall so the buyer wasn't out of pocket, I dont know how the broker reclaimed their outlay, but for a seller to promise a certain amount of usable points and then use those points would be fraud.

I know you've said that Vero beach is your prefered destination, are you 100% certain that is going to be your prefered destination for the next 40 years? I would urge a little caution if that is not the case. Vero is a great destination in it's own right, but if you're planning to spend a decent amount of time at WDW, either by first choice or by splitting a vacation I would suggest buying the majority of the points at the destination you're going to spend the most time and the balance at your second choice. You will find it a great deal easier to be able to book all of your vacation using the 11 month window at each resort/destination than having to worry about booking flights and some accommodation a decent amount ahead of time and having to fret about getting the other part of the stay organised nearer the time. If you visit outside of "peak times" this shouldn't be an issue, if your visits are usually at a busy time it could be.

As we are in Ireland we ususally try and take a 3-4 week vacation in Florida and spend 3 weeks in a private villa off site followed by 5-6 nights on-site. We picked Vero as a break away from the parks.

We can get our Disney fix in the 3 weeks we are in Orlando and then use Vero as our chill out days

I've bought points via resale - not too tricky at all. Not quite as easy as buying direct from Disney - but then that's almost TOO easy!!

Main difference is that for some reason you can't pay the broker by credit card, at least you couldn't three years ago. So, it's probably going to have to be a bank transfer, for which you will be charged about £20 each time - when you pay the deposit and again when you pay the balance! But you're saving quite a lot of money anyway, so don't let that put you off!!!

Well it's all changed we have agreed to buy points at OKW - just waiting for the paperwork to come through.

I am feeling a bit nervous at the moment but I am sure it will be OK.

They said that it would probably take 6-8 weeks in total for me to be registered on the Disney system and able to book so I was wondering how easy it will be to book OKW in February for a 5 night stay at the end of August.

We currently have a reservation at the Contemporary but I would like to cancel this and stay DVC.

You should be ok with your reservation request for August, but you may need to be flexible about where you stay. There are many options at DVC WDW, and all of them are good.

So yes, cancel the Contemporary booking, and fall in love with DVC!
