Buying Disney gift cards at Lowes

I've bought a few since April at Lowes with my Discover card. Discover is offering 5% cash back on purchases made at home improvement stores April - June. Out of curiosity, I bought a couple of Disney cards at Lowes and the purchase came up as "Home improvement" on my statement, so I got the 5% cash back.

Note that you have to sign up on Discover's site for the promo. It's not automatically applied unless you sign up on your account page.

Chase Freedom has 5% rewards at Lowe's this summer, too. :moped:

Is there a difference, at least as far as credit card merchant codes are concerned?
I don't know?? I guess we'd have to call. Seems like whatever they can do to not have to pay out they try to do.ha

It actually doesn't concern me because we wouldn't be in Disney at those times but just throwing it out there for anyone else.

Which lowes have Disney gift cards? We want to lowes around Atlanta Georgia and they do not carry any. Do the lowes in Florida carry them?

THANKS! I didn't even realize that! We're going in August so that is perfect for any incidentals while we are there. I wonder if all purchases at Disney qualify? Our tickets and room will be paid for in advance but I wonder if our meals will count toward "amusement parks" or ring up as restaurants and therefore won't qualify. Guess I won't really know until we go but if I don't have enough gift cards it is worth a try.

Here is a Q&A from the Rewards page on Chase's website:

Q. What types of merchants are in the Theme park category?

A. Theme park category
Merchants in the Theme park category include amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, and aquariums. Please note that some merchants that sell goods and services within a theme park, such as food and drink, may not be included in this category

Sounds like restaurants inside DL are probably not classified as "Theme Parks". In fact, now that I remember, during last visit to DL in 2011 this card was offering 5% back on restaurants, and I did earn 5% for all the restaurants inside Disneyland that I used the card in.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I am better off trying to get enough gift cards before I go then. :)

The last couple of years, the price increase has been in early June. (First Sunday in June?!?!? I think, but am not sure.)

Is there any kind of announcement at least a couple days in advance before the prices actually increase...or do they just change overnight?

I have a vague memory of it being a pretty tight secret until it was too late to do much about it - except that UT still had some tickets left at the old pricing. However, like I said, it's a VAGUE memory, so I'm not sure....

I live in Florida and I bought all my disney gift cards at my local Lowe's store.

Keep an eye on this forum for the announcement. I think they tell the public like 1-2 days in advance. Could be wrong. Can anyone else confirm this?
