buying discount tickets using annual pass

I am a little confused so would appreciate some help.

If I buy an annual pass I can then buy discounted tickets for my family. How do I go about doing that? Do I need to wait until my annual pass is activated and then buy them or can I buy them online somewhere before we arrive?

I'm pretty sure it must be activated before you can get any discounts, just like parking.

You must have an activated AP and all AP discounts tickets need to be purchased at the park.

Sorry to hi-jack but, I have a question....can you buy an AP and not activate it until you arrive? Say, I want to buy for CHristmas gift but, we are not going until October. Is this possible or does it activate when you purchase?
