My husband and I have a 100 point contract at AKV with February use year. We very much would like to add on 50-100 points at Boulder Ridge. I’ve been watching for a while and small BRV contracts don’t pop up often. If it was your decision would you buy a small resale (75-100 pts) with a fall use year that may not be the best fit for your needs or just do 50 and buy direct? We would most likely bank each contract every other year to avoid split stays. Most of our travel would be spring or early summer but I would love at least one Thanksgiving or Xmas trip to BRV to see the decorations.

Is your current contract direct or resale?
It’s a resale contract. No direct points yet. My husband would prefer 2-3 smaller purchases to get to desired level of points instead of taking a huge chunk out of savings at one time.

I think UY to fit your travel patterns is very important and for me, that is more important as it helps reduce the risk of losing points in the even something does happen.

So, I would probably buy less points direct to get a matching UY than more resale and end up with something that is not easy to use. Plus, a 2nd UY means a new membership. You will not be able to combine the new points with your AKV points at 7 months for a single reservation, without a transfer and there are rules with transferred points.

Yep, small contracts with a UY match are slim pickings, especially for our Sept UY. That's why we went 100 pt Direct with BWV last Sept (promo pricing). Out second home and will ride it out to 2042.

I'm a big supporter of having different use years on purpose unless there's a period of four months of the year where you KNOW you're never going to travel. For me, I'll never travel September, October, November, or December, since I don't want to take kids out of school early in the year and I love that time of year in New England. That would put me in January as my ideal UY. But there are no January UY so it slides me to February, which makes January travel difficult. So I add a second December contract to cover my January travel.

Our original home resort is SSR. We've subsequently added on at BRV, both resale and direct. Our UY is also February, and I like keeping all the contracts in the same UY, so we've added all our resale and direct points in February as well.

I was able to find two small BRV resale contracts over the last 3 or 4 months: one for 30 points (which had all points banked), and one for 50 (stripped). I also added one direct for 25 points, more to add to our direct total than anything else, but also because our February luck may run out and I also wanted to add a ressie there in September for F&W and I'm a "no borrow, no walking" kind of guy.

I want to have a nice bundle of BRV points in the back pocket as I think the price and popularity will both increase once the refurb happens (sometime in 2041 at the rate we are going). I get it that it's a 2042 resort, but if they do anything remotely close to the job they did at SSR, then I really think BRV will give CCV a run for its money (expiration dates notwithstanding). A small cachet of BRV points looks really good to me.

I added onRiviera direct last year 50 points so as to have the same use year. For me, it's just much easier managing 1 use year

Stick with the same use year. How soon do you need these points?

I believe Boulder Ridge just saw a direct price increase to $190 or so. With its 2042 expiration date, I personally wouldn't purchase it direct. If you were worried about staying at Riviera or Disneyland Tower and had other direct points, maybe.

It frequently goes for $55-60 less or so on the resale market.

Set up the phone apps from the resale companies to notify you when a February BRV contract is listed and go from there.

We have had great experience with buying direct, first AKL in June and then BWV in January. We placed great value in the hassle free process of direct, were able to match our UY, got the current year (Free) points, and they were loaded on our account within hours of our purchase.
