Hey all you NYC Dis-ers!!
I am going to NYC for the weekend soon and trying to plan my strategy for buying show tickets!! I have been there before and I have done the TKTS booth ..so I know how that works. I am taking 3 kids (12,16,16) and we are not set on one certain show but we do sort of have a short list... Lion King, Wicked, Newsies, Mary Poppins...we are somewhat open minded but my kids have never been to a Broadway show (or NYC) so we do want to see one of the more popular shows. I don't really want to risk waiting for the TKTS booth...they may not have any of the shows we want to see... so I guess my only choice is to buy tickets online and pay almost $50 in fees? Is Broadway.com the "real" website to buy tickets? We would really like to see Wicked and it looks like the lowest price tickets available that weekend are about $200/each... includes all those fees..
Any advice anyone? Wishing for tickets around $100 each...not $200. :confused3

Even though Broadway.com is official, their fees are sky high. Go directly through Ticketmaster (or Telecharge - but all the shows you listed are on Ticketmaster) and fees are usually only $10 or so a ticket (I actually think my fees the last time I bought through Ticketmaster were $7 and $9 through Telecharge?). You'll still be paying fees but they're not outrageous. Or if you are willing to wait til you get to the city, you can go to the theater's box office and buy the tickets there and save on all the fees.

I Live 40 minutes outside of NYC and have used Broadwaybox.com. Very good website. Broadway.com is reliable but more of a ticket broker - Like Stub Hub. StudentRush.org is a great site for low price off broadway. They often have the show Voca People on it, which I think is good for kids. Playbill.com will show you how to get Rush/student/and which shows have lotteries. Good Luck and have fun!!!!

We head to NYC for a long weekend every year and see 2 or 3 shows. broadwaybox dot com is where we always start since they have all the discounts. If we can't get what we want there, I see what theater the show is playing at and go directly to their webpage which will usually link you to ticketmaster or some other site. Broadway dot com and Stub Hub have such outrageous fees I don't use them unless I absolutely have to.

TKTS has an iPhone app that tells you what's on the board each day - right now, of the shows you listed, you can get tickets to Mary Poppins for 40% off. Lion King is still popular, Newsies just won some Tony awards.. there is also stubhub (more like scalping, and fees), or possibly scorebig.com - it's like Priceline for event tickets. They seem to have a more limited selection than the other sites that people have mentioned, though.

Cool! Thank you so much!! Also thanks to others who recommended broadwaybox.com... I might use that to book one show for sure and then check out TKTS to see if there's anything else we can see for a good price!
I knew I could depend on my DIS friends!! :goodvibes
