My family and I are new DVC members. We just bought 250 points for BLT through Disney. We are now considering purchasing additional points through resale. Our thoughts are to buy into the Beach Club Villas with minimum points (25-50) to enable us to book at the 11 month booking window. Are there pitfalls to buying into another "home resort" that we should be aware of?

Can the 250 points through BLT and the 25 or 50 points through BCV be used together? I read on another board that as long as the use year is the same, the points can be used together. However, if they are separate use years, then the reservations and points have to be used separately.

Can anyone shed any light? What are the pros and cons of having minimal points with another home resort?

Thanks in advance!

First of all, welcome to the DIS.
And welcome home, congratulations on BLT.

I'm fairly new to DVC so I'll try to give ya some info I know, but someone else more experienced can probably tell ya more details. You can combine those pts from BLT 'n BCV at the 7 month mark, but until then each one only gets you that 11 month window at each respective resort.

I don't know about the pros 'n cons of ownin' a smaller contract, seems to me that's a matter of you not bein' able to stay very long in a reservation made at the 11 month window, but I myself would like to stay a night or two at BLT. :teeth:

Check back here, someone else will come up with more thoughts on this 'n again, welcome. :goodvibes

Thanks Uncle Remus!

That's right. You would be able to book at 11 months at BCV, but only for as many nights as your BCV points would buy. I don't know how many nights that would get you at BCV (at OKW you could get 3 nights in a studio at the lowest poinst season). Then at seven months you could book more nights, if availiable, using your BLT points. BTW Congrats on buying BLT!! I've tossed around getting an add on there but have so far resisted.

People get small contracts at other resorts to allow them to book a few nights at that resort at the 11-month mark. Using banking and borrowing, even a 25-point contract gives you 75 points to use every 3 years. Enough for a Sun-Thur studio.

If you do decide to get a small add-on, you don't save a lot of money going resale. People ask for a premium $/point, and you have to pay closing closts. It's often easiest to just buy the add-on through Disney.

I think I remember that as of January 1st, the smallest add on , at least at BLT and maybe AKV will be 100 points? Was I reading this right or am I imagining things? :cool2:

I think it's just BLT and it's just via Disney.

There are a lot of small contracts out there. I have several 50 pointers!

Yes, I thought about the fact that the small the purchase, the higher the closing costs as a percent to total. Your response made me think of another question. Can you add on through Disney for any resort, or just resorts that are currently open to purchase (i.e. BLT and AKV)?

you can purchase any of the resorts. It may just take a while for points to become available.
