Today we were headed back to the house for the inspection. It would be a combo job with both the workings of the house being checked and the in and outside being looked at for bugs or WDOs (wood destroying organisms) as they like to call them down here. David, our realtor, arrived about 30 minutes late to pick us up. He got lost because hes not familiar with Disney property. ACK! How people can live here and not spend part of their life accessing this wonderful place is just beyond me!
Even with the delayed start, we were only 5 minutes late for our 9:30 appointment and arrived just after the inspector did. The company we used was Pillar to Post and the inspectors name was Reese. He came complete with a laptop and printer. Although he missed a couple of things, which I found, he really seemed to know his stuff. I gave him a 9 on a scale of 1-10. Some 2 ½ hours later, he was done. He handed us a multi page print out in a binder complete with information on our cooling/heating system, a bi-annual check list for problems, a sheet with household item replacement costs and even a Home Depot CD for do it yourself repairs.
There were no major problems with the house but there were numerous little ones. The most important were issues with the electric system. The builders (or last owners) doubled up on some of the electrical circuits. Theres plenty of room in the circuit breaker box to add on so we want the owners to fix that. Both tubs and one bathroom sink have stoppers that dont work and one of the sprinklers in the backyard is broken off. Speaking of sprinklers, its an automatic system. What fun stuff! Being from the north, Ive never had a house with a sprinkler system. I just thought that was so cool!
Our realtor will now submit this list to the owners. When we signed the agreement to buy the house, they agreed to pay up to $250 for any repairs. Ill be content if the electric issues are taken care of. Anything else thats fixed will be a bonus.
The cost for the inspection was $325 but worth a million for the piece of mind.
Next we went into town. I wanted to ask the nice woman at the Chamber of Commerce about the local cable company and if I can get a cable connection for the internet. Unfortunately they were at lunch so Ill have to call when we get back to MA.
Then it was back to the hotel. We went I-4 all the way and, with the least amount of traffic Ive seen so far, made it back here in just under 30 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow David will have an answer for us on what the sellers will and will not fix.
DH and I had a light lunch and then rested and watched TV. Tonight we would be heading over to the AKL to have dinner at Bomas.
My DH had never seen the AKL so we spent about 45 minutes checking out this magnificent hotel. He was very impressed. Our PS was for 6:10 and we were called around 6:20. The restaurant was very busy. I guess the words gotten out about how great the food is here. For the next hour we enjoyed all the delicious offerings. MOO! Zebra domes rule!!! Oh and the rest of the food was great too.
When we were done we went out by the pool and sat for a while just enjoying the night. Not part of the lodges wild animals but fun to see anyway, I spotted 2 hummingbird moths. One of the 2 was the biggest one Ive ever seen.
Finally it was time to go. I went off to get the car and, of course, had my second spell of auto amnesia. Finally located it after a 5-minute search. We got back to our room just after 8. That was my first time driving down here at night. There sure have been a lot of firsts during this trip!
I packed as much as I could and then watched TV. All the confirmation calls (for Mears and the airlines) had been done earlier in the day. Then it was lights out at 10.
High Point Having the house inspected.
Low Point I cant think of a single thing!
Weird Point Our realtor getting lost on Disney property.
Best Point Dinner at Bomas!
