A poster over on another board mentioned that they are saving up Disney gift cards to buy DVC. I cautioned them that gift cards cannot be used to buy the contract, but they can be used to pay the annual dues. They said that is contradictory to what their guide told them. I can't believe a guide would tell someone that they could buy a contract using Disney gift cards. Can you imagine saving up or purchasing upwards of $4K (minimum!) in Disney gift cards to buy a contract, only to be told at the time of purchase that they cannot be used as payment?!

Maybe you can post this link for them: Disney Vacation Account FAQs

Specifically:
Can I apply my Disney Vacation Account toward a Disney Vacation Club Membership?
No, Disney Vacation Club Real Estate interests cannot be purchased with the Disney Vacation Account.
Of course, it also says this and we know it isn't true.
Can I apply my Disney Vacation Account toward the Annual Dues for my Disney Vacation Club Membership?
No, your Annual Dues cannot be paid using your Disney Vacation Account.

Payments from DVA are in the form of a gift card, though.
With DVA, you get a 2% rebate on qualifying purchases, so it may have something to do with that. They either have to spend a lot of time inspecting purchases to see if they are qualifying, or they lose money on large low-margin transactions.

Well, worst case scenario, if she can't use the gift cards, they are very easy to use up if you own DVC. You can pay for annual dues, or your vacations of course.

DVA and gift cards are not exactly the same I believe . For example, you can use gift cards to pay down charges to your room during your stay, but I don't think DVA works for that. So they do have some way of differentiating between the two.

Number 11 at https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ProductInformation/Terms

"The Disney Gift Card may not be used towards the purchase of a real estate interest in a Disney Vacation Club Resort."

Problem is you can't trust anything the website or even a CM tells you, lol. Like the DVA website specifically says you can't use DVA to pay for DVC MFs, but I know it works from personal experience.

Could be part of it, but there is a lifetime cap to how much money you get back ($500 per household), so I doubt Disney is sweating that part too much.

As with anything your salesperson tells you, don't believe it until you see it in writing. Then you can half believe it.
