Has anyone ever bought a car off e-bay? Just curious if it was legitimate?

DH and I bought a Jeep Wrangler off ebay a couple of years ago. Totally legit. Just ask all your questions/get pics before you bid. If the seller doesn't answer or is evasive don't bid.... it's just like regular ebay.

My DH bought a Ford Explorer off Ebay. He flew into Chicago to pick it up and drove it home. After using it a year we decided we needed a mini van. He traded it into honda and they gave him back the amount he paid for it. So I guess it was a pretty good deal. Good Luck make sure that the person you purchase from has a lot of feedback with selling cars.

A friend from Long Island did.. It was a beautiful vehicle - a Land Rover I think.. Within 6 weeks the transmission died.. They thought they were very careful, but it ended up costing them a boat load of money in the end..

Just like anything else, you have to determine if you're comfortable with the risk..

We have bought 2 cars and sold one over ebay. My DH is very good at "car stuff" and really watched the first one for awhile by following the seller's other auctions. When he finally did bid on his car, he wound up getting an amazing deal on a BMW 7 series. The second car we bought was for a private individual instead of a dealership. That one was close to us, so we picked up in person. The BMW was delivered from Kansas. We sold a car to someone in Virginia. The buyer flew into Philly, DH picked him up at the airport, then drove here and the buyer took off south in his new Jetta. We have had great luck. Just be careful.

I have a friend who bought an RV off eBay, but he went to look at it first in Virginia (he's from NY). My office managers husband bought a Land Rover SUV off eBay and it's been a good vehicle for them. They traveled to PA to pick it up sight unseen.

Myself, I've been watching some Covettes (C4 generation) on eBay, but have not bid yet. I just want to get a feel for what they are selling for.

We bought my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser off Ebay. It was a dealer listing it, and DH called and talked with them about the price, they arrived at an agreement, and (I think htis is how they did it) the dealer put the agreed upon price on the auction as a Buy It Now, then DH bought it. (6500 miles!) DH has purchased several collectible cars-rare Corvettes and a 1955 ( I think?) Caddy. All purchases were legit and good deals. We had the cars delivered.
