Because my DW is not a great Disney fan, we rotate our April vacations between 3 different locations, I know that we probably will not be back in Disney until 2007. I also know that if I wait until then to purchase tickets that the prices will be higher than they are today. Can I buy tickets now, knowing that I won't be using them for 2 1/2 years? What happens if they change the 'tickets never expire' policy? Is there some sort of assumption that if you buy tickets now, that at lease one day of them will be used somewhat soon?

You could call and ask if one day has to be used soon, but I can't imagine that's the case. Considering I've been told the value of the old ride coupons can still be traded in for tickets, I can't imagine you would have any problem doing this. We always buy 7 day PHP and sometimes spread them out over 3 or 4 trips (because we keep forgetting to use them up and buy new so we always seem to have 4 in rotation LOL. I would say to buy them now is a good hedge against inflation (plus a good excuse to maybe try to sqeeze in a quick trip sometime. LOL!

Yes you can

Your tickets will still be good. Disney cannot retroactively change the terms that previously purchased tickets were sold under. Tickets are a contract that require them to offer something (park admission) and you to accept the terms (purchase of the tickets). Once purchased, those terms can't be changed retroactively without the approval of both parties. We all know that that would never happen. ;)

No there isn't. There are tickets with expiration dates like December 2004 that carry the expectation of using them or losing them, but that does not apply on the regular park tickets.

We are going in April 2007 too.

I bought the eclusive 3 day park hopper, cause I know my husband really doesn't care for Disney either. We will also be doing other things in Florida, our daughter will be marching during Easter week, so we will be at another park during the day and head over to the Magic Kingdom around 4-5 and the park is usually open till midnight Easter week.

I also bought our Universal tickets already, they never expire either.

I did it cause I know the price will go up, plus it is one thing paid for.

I buy our tickets as soon as I can, even if our trip is a year away. You are right about the ticket prices going up (usually in Jan. or Feb. each year), so if you can pick them up now, you'll be saving yourself some money.

Since you have 2 1/2 years of wait time, you could also set up a bank (I have the crazy taxi bank with Mickey and the gang on board!), and put change or a dollar here and there into it, and in no time, you'll have enough for a ticket. Then start again! Painless.
