Buy new contract or 'upgrade' my SAP contract

Relatively new DVC owner - Just curious how y'all choose between selling and getting a bigger contract vs just adding-on new contract. I know most people here just keep adding-on, but I also know most people who buy resale have also sold at some point.

Context: I have an AUL contract that's 1/2 for Aulani 1/2 for SAPs. I like Aulani, but don't want to go every year. I also like the SAP resorts like OKW, AKV, and VB. Also, I am purchasing a BWV contract. Long-term, I want to get a VGF contract, and trying to decide if I should keep or sell my AUL contract to help fund the VGF purchase.

I have bought and sold over the yeads…and added on too. Honestly, I have done it so i have the resorts I want and feel I finally do!

RIV and VGF because those are my top two and then SSR to supplement as SAP. This allows me to upgrade to 1 bedroom and larger units regularly.

You like Aulani. It's not a terrible resort for SAP if you buy it resale. Selling now is likely to cost you something. And you are thinking about a "long term" change.

I'd sit tight for now and solve the VGF problem when it shows up. It's also worth noting that in the beginning of my timeshare journey it was pretty easy to get out over my skis a little bit. (If I am being honest with myself, there's still a bit of FOMO here and there which puts me in just as precarious a position!)

Personally I'd keep the AUL as SAP, please don't buy VB as SAP. The dues alone make it not worth it even if they were nearly giving it out for free. It's only worth it if you're going to stay there. I'd hold off on selling the AUL since right now it's going for 80-90pp for which amount you're basically paying the same amount as SSR SAP. It sounds like VGF is where you want to be on most trips in which case I'd recommend holding off until you can afford the contract you want at VGF. Did you consider SSR for SAP? Those cheap dues are pretttty nice :P

If you want VGF maybe this is the time to get a direct contract to be eligible for blue card benefits so you could stay at all the new resorts going forward too. If you don’t care about direct I’d try to get an OKW extended because the point charts are the best there and if you ever want to book a grand villa they are huge and cheap there.

Would SAP work for when you book Aulani? There's a lot of reasons I wouldn't want to hold Aulani, but now is not exactly a great time to be selling it. VB is def not SAP.

If you want VGF long term, and buying Aulani was a mistake, I would bite the bullet and just do it now. Sell Aulani and buy VGF. VGF is SO, SO low right now, it's the right time to buy, even if it isn't the best time to sell. Because VGF is so much more expensive, it's still a net win, IMO. And you get what you want.

I'm new and have a silly question - what does "SAP" stand for?
Sleep around points. AKA points you plan to use to book a reservation that's less than 7 months away where home booking priority no longer applies.
