Buy Extended Warranty for Kindle?

I am getting my son a Kindle for his birthday here in a few weeks, probably buying it through Amazon, which sells an extended warranty for 2 years for $39.99. I checked Squaretrade.com and their 2 year warranty would be $29.99. What I am wondering is if everyone usually buys an extended warranty and if so, would it be easier/better to just buy it though Amazon and be done? Thanks for all your wisdom!!

I bought a warranty for my Kindle through Squaretrade. There are usually codes out for a discount as well ( I think I got one off of retailmenot), so it becomes even cheaper. I didn't think it was anymore work than buying it through Amazon.

I have an extended warrenty through Squaretrade. I used a promo code at the time. Worth getting for sure.

I've never heard of squaretrade so I'm glad you are asking. I am hoping to buy a Kindle for myself within the next couple months.

Where do you find promo codes?

My dad bought his through Amazon. They have replaced his twice. He thinks it was caused by being kept in the car, ftr.

If you get the $30 protection, it's 22% of the purchase price cost if you're getting the $139 version (or 16% the purchase price cost if you're getting the $189 version). That's a pretty big percentage of the cost, and it's only two years protection.

I've had my Kindle over two years now and have never had a minute's trouble with it. Of course, I treat it like a baby.

A friend bought a Kindle that just didn't "do right" from the very first minute. The 2nd or 3rd day she owned it, she called customer service and said, "I think I got a bad one". They sent her a replacement out immediately and had her send in the first one. No problems with the replacement. I really think that most people who are going to have trouble are going to have it like she did -- immediately, which means you can stil exchange it.

You know I have thought about this. I know my son would be super careful with his as well and he will be using it more at home than anywhere, so it's not like he will be traveling with it a lot or anything. I figured if it didn't work right in the beginning it would just be able to be exchanged.

I may look around and see if I can find a discount code for squaretrade who I think you have 90 days from date of purchase to buy an extended warranty.

I have a feeling more people DON'T buy the warranty than those who DO. Thanks for your help everyone.

Even if your son is super careful and only using it at home, accidents happen. If he trips and drops it, if it bumps into a wall, if something spills on it, etc. the extended warranty will cover that. Possible accidents are the reason why I bought an extended warranty for my Nook.

The idea I like with the kindle warranty is that it covers one accidental breakage This always seemed like a good idea to me Having said that, I forgot to get it so didn't get it in time (you have 60 days to get it)

Also, this isn't really on topic, but because someone else posted it about it do NOT store your kindle in the car. Extreme cold or heat can cause major problems with it, include making it nonoperational.
