Buy at the First DVC You Stayed?

Was your first DVC contract at the first DVC resort you stayed at?

I think the "no" answers here may better reflect that people who hang out on this board as much as most of us do were knowledgeable about what resort they wanted, regardless of whether or not they'd stayed there.
I think that’s a reasonable assessment. I definitely knew what I wanted. 🤓

We were impervious to incentives when we decided to buy.
This cracked me up!! 😂😂

While BLT is at the top of my list, I have to admit that Wilderness Lodge is a close second, and if I had stayed there first, there is a good chance I'd have my 500+ points across 8 contracts THERE instead of essentially dumping my retirement into BLT lol. :teeth:

We didn’t buy at the first DVC we stayed. We did however sell our 1st DVC and bought at the 1st DVC we stayed at. BWV, Heck Yah!!!

We did many tours and never bought in. We were going to book a trip to stay at CB and friends of ours rented us points. They couldn't get a 1 bedroom for us (booking last minute) but the friends said same price and you have a 2 bedroom at OKW. That hooked us and we bought Poly only because it was on the monorail loop and at the time thought it would be the last available resort to sell on the monorail. Bought SSR during the pandemic resale for a great price for SAP mostly. We have never used our points for OKW but we have stayed at many other resorts as we like kitchens and bring family with us! We also took 3 tours and finally bought in 4 months afterwards.

I don't know how to answer the poll? Data points:
  • Our first DVC stay was a BWV Studio booked through DCL as a "Land and Sea" package, Sept 1998, when the Magic was about 6-weeks old. We toured DVC but didn't buy.
  • We stayed in the Disney Hotels and Villas surrounding the Dolphin for business travel (Conference) for 9 years before buying DVC.
  • Our first timeshare purchase was a "Club" based product on the West Coast in 2000.
  • We used our other timeshare to trade into BWV through II/RCI several times before buying DVC.
  • We tried to purchase BWV resale in 2003/4 ... but multiple contracts fell apart. (Seller backed out, etc)
  • In desperation, we tried to purchase BWV direct from DVC in 2004 ... but was tricked into buying SSR (pre-opening) later that year.
Wrapping up: Our first DVC stay was BWV but our DVC home resort is SSR. Does our end result justify a "No" as related to your poll ... or was our BWV purchase intention sufficient to reply "Yes" to the poll??

I had actually never stayed at a DVC before buying VGC. I had stayed at the Grand Cal Hotel a few times. Though I did own with Marriott Timeshares for 20 years and figured DVC would be just as good if not better -- and Grand Cal is a great location for West Coast people.

When we bought in there was only OKW. It was called Disney Vacation Club, no option to buy any other at that point.

We bought at 3 resorts never stayed at any of them before buying but had been to all for meals and shopping. Our DVC resorts are still our favorites 12 years later

No, first DVC was OKW with a member friend. I bought BWV, mainly for location.

The first DVC venue that we stayed in was our last DVC home. Our first two DVC Homes weren't any place we'd stayed previously and neither did we particularly like for themselves. Our first Home was the current 'deal' and the second Home was chosen for it's location. Finally our third DVC Home we bought where we like to stay and then added to the contract about 5 years later to be able to stay there longer.

When we purchased there was only one option Disney Vacation Club now OKW. We stayed two times before buying it. Also stayed at Vero and Hilton Head before buying them.

I answered no, but the answer is sort of "both". Our first deluxe resort where we stayed was Contemporary, done by finding a great discount on the disney site/getting one of those directed emails. Really enjoyed it, even though we stayed in the garden wing. Got another discount from Disney the following year, used it to book a "studio" during Flower and Garden, having no idea what DVC was. We were upgraded to a 1BR and suddenly I learned what DVC was. For our first resale contract, we looked at BLT and BWV and just happened to get to contract with BLT first. Price, points, UY just worked out. But I'll always have a soft spot for BWV and the Crescent Lake area, so we have stayed at BCV 3x and BWV 2x now. (But still stay at our home resorts more).

Never stayed at DVC before buying at BWV. We had stayed in moderates, but were tired of buses every night. When I first saw Boardwalk I loved it, and it was walking distance to two parks. Started looking for a resale right away.

We never stayed at DVC before buying, we always stayed on moderates but once we viewed the DVC model rooms we bought at SSR. Still got it and added on as well.👌

Yes but thats because we stayed at BWV after staying at BW and it being the specific location we wanted to be at after tons of Disney research over a decade ago. We never even stayed anywhere together as a couple at Disney until Riviera in January 2021.

I first stayed at OKW on an RCI rental more than 15 years ago. I found a resale not long after and purchased there. I was familiar with timeshare and resales from other companies, so resale at DVC did not bother me. I then purchased another 50 at OKW retail a little while later. Ever since then I have been adding retail and resale contracts and I am currently over 600 points.

Yes! Have stayed at several deluxe resorts, rented points and stayed at OKW in 2020 and again this year. Loved the resort and decided that is where we wanted to be for our family trips so we purchased in August. May try some other resorts when it’s just hubby and myself if available at 7 months
