Everyone's wallet is different, but I wouldn't spend the money on an AP unless I was going more than once or was using for hotel discounts that would make up for the extra $$.
But, if you have the moola and it won't hurt to do, that's a different story.
Thanks, njchris. That's an excellent point. As usual, I'm thinking with my heart, not my head. We do have the money, but my husband's not crazy about spending it. I'll be sure to look into the other benefits of AP's before deciding.
If I go to Nemo on the 15th, I might also need to change my plans to see Wishes that night - 1 of only 2 nights it will be available, thanks to MNSSHP. I think I would need to be reasonably sure the soft openning would continue past the 15th (we'll be there through the 20th). Does anybody know if soft opennings typically continue immediately after scheduled dates? If so, do they run daily? What happened with POTC?
I'm already impressed with my AP. I got my hotel about $100 cheaper than I would have had I not had the AP. Granted, $100 isn't much, but it was a nice perk. I got a little sliver off my MNSSHP passes. Not much, but hey - every little bit counts.
Keep in mind though, we go several times a year, so the APs for us are MUCH cheaper than doing Magic Your Way every time we go.
It all depends on the staffing, levels of people in the park, and what other little tweaks need to happen as far as a soft opening is concerned. Generally it will start having soft opening about 1 to 2 weeks after the preview weekends but it all depends.
We were at WDW for the AP preview of Soarin. The following day they were doing soft openings open to the general public...in fact I believe it was open most of the week we were there!
So there may be a chance of getting in without an AP.
I am hoping for a soft opening during my quickie trip (Oct 8 & 9) but can certainly wait until my Dec trip if necessary!
AP holders and DVC members have a preview weekend of Oct. 13-15. I believe CM preview is Oct. 12? After that weekend there should be a good chance of soft opennings. Generally there are not usually soft opennings until after the preferred guest previews. We arrive on Oct. 14th, so was lucky this time (AP holders and DVC members).
