Today we did absolutely nothing - end of report......OK, Ill pad it out a little.
The intention today was to relax at the hotel and thats exactly what we did. DD1 & 2 were awake at 7.15am, swiftly followed by DW and I - woken by yet another rendition of the Top 7 list! Gotta like the presenter though, especially when she comes down Summit Plummit!
DW was still tired so I volunteered to take the girls for breakfast. If I had one criticism of the hotel, it would be Roaring Forks, the fast food café. It is kinda small and the choices limited, but I guess it does the job. DD1 & 2 soon found something they liked - sausage, egg & cheese rolls. I settled for a coffee. Breakfast done, they demanded to be set loose in the pool. Fortunately they are both excellent swimmers, so once changed they were away.
DW had now risen and wanted some breakfast, so while she ate I bought The Orlando Sunday Sentinel from the gift shop (really nice store by the way) and hauled it to the poolside - it weighs about the same as a small pig! We were soon joined by DW and after snagging a couple of poolside loungers we set about the getting a tan. Now, as my wife comes from Latin America, she goes from brown to browner in about 3 seconds. DD2 takes about 5 minutes, DD1 about an hour. By lunchtime I was the colour of the strawberry cocktail I was enjoying! I do go brown, but it takes a few days.
The pool here is well themed and by 1.00 my DD2s please for me to go down the slide got too much for me, so I agreed. I checked with the life guard that it had been designed with a 64, 16 ½ stone man in mind and he assured me it was fine. Its quite a short slide, but I still managed to produce quite a displacement of water. New guests were suddenly impressed that Wilderness Lodge had seemingly put in a wave machine!
At about 2.00pm the travel had finally caught up on me so I returned to my room for a lie down. As soon as I had hit the pillow I was gone and only woke when the rest of the family returned at 4.30pm. They had the same idea as me, so I showered and left them to it. I simply sat in the hotel lobby and took in the sites and sounds. The lobby is truly a remarkable place and any words I use to describe it wouldnt do it justice. Im guessing its about 80 yards by 50 yards and 7 stories high. The Whispering Canyon, where we would be eating tonight, is on one side and the reception on the other. There are leather sofas all over the place and to add to the fantastic theming, cowboy movie songs play quietly in the background - three weeks later I still find myself whistling the theme to The Magnificent Seven and How The West Was Won.
At 7.00 I was joined by DD2 and we went to the games arcade where I gave here an absolute thrashing at air hockey - she then thrashed me on the pinball machine! We had 7.45 PS for the Whispering Canyon so we were all in the lobby at the allotted time. WCC was packed and we had to wait for 40 minutes, but theres no better place to wait than here. The restaurant was very cool and great fun. Our waiter told us that if we wore the napkins we could keep them - DW & DD1 made a bandana, DD2 a head scarf and after numerous attempts to make a hat
, DW tied it around my wrist tightly enough to cut off the blood flow to my hand. Lots of people took the napkins with them without wearing them, so clearly we were conned. We all opted for the all you can eat skillet. First we were served salad and corn bread (a little like sponge cake). The skillet was made up of chicken, pork, ribs, sausages, beans, mashed potatoes and something else Ive forgotten. Drinks were all served in jars of varying sizes and a good time was had by all. DD2 did the horse race and although none of us wanted ketchup on this occasion, we did see the fun others had - I wont spoil it for those of you who are visiting for the 1st time soon.
By 9.30pm we were back in the room and still pretty tired. Luckily the Electrical Water Pageant was running a little late so we were just in time to watch it from our balcony - much nicer than seeing it from the cold ferry last night. Watched Donald Trump destroy someones dreams on The Apprentice and we were asleep by 11.15.
