Butterfly Farm on Eastern Carribean

We are going on the 7 day cruise soon and my husband read that we can do the butterfly farm on our own for much less by takeing a taxi and paying admission. We are 2 adults and 3 children. Is it worth doing this? Is there any cautions or problems with doing it on your own. I would love to save the money, but not if I am going to lose by stress, confusion and possibly missing the ship.

Does anyone have an thoughts on this?

We went to the butterfly farm.
I believe the woman said the cost per person on our own would be $12.
It's a haul from the ship, so I don't know about the feasibility of getting there.

our kids enjoyed it. It's small... but beautiful, and she really gives you some good information on butterflies.

My husband and I really enjoyed the Island Tour and Butterfly Farm in St. Maarten. It was relaxing and fun. The butterfly farm was amazing and our tour guide was really funny, smart and informative in his narration of the island. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a leisurly and relaxing day, especially those who are not interested in doing something "beachy". We will try a different excursion next time but would not hesitate to do this again.

Yes. In fact, after the tour, we went back to our stateroom to get our beach gear. We then took a taxi to Orient Bay. We had plenty of time there before we headed back to the ship before departure.

If you do it on your own, how long is the actual tour on the butterfly farm?
