Ok. I keep hearing from people so excited to try the Butterbeer in the new Harry Potter World. But it is not even real beer. No alcohol.

So how are people so excited about a new beer without any alcohol in it?

Have you read the books? Are you a Harry Potter fan from the books, not the movies?

It is not supposed to be a beer. Butterbeer is consumed by children in a fantasy story- nowhere is it implyed it would be alchoholic :confused3

there is Root Beer, Birch Beer and now butter beer. Sounds delish!

Muggles... :confused3 :::sigh:::

Ditto. :drinking1

I'm kinda disappointed that they don't a version with alcohol in it.

They are mentioned alot in the books but you also see it in the last 2 movies (I think.) In Half Blood Prince you can see Hermione sloshed when they are coming back from Hogsmeade when they encouter the girl with the curse getting flipped in the air.

How dare people be excited about something new and delicious! Oh, my stars and garters! Whatever will we do?

In the novels butterbeer has functionally no intoxicating qualities in humans, only in house elves.

If you're that desperate to get drunk Hogsmeade will also provide you with Hog's Head Ale, which is most certainly alcoholic.

I've seen that movie a number of times, but I never thought Hermione was drunk... :confused3

I just took it as that when she had hers arms around both Ron and Harry... it seemed almost as if they were guiding her. They were giddy.

I have to imagine Hogwarts has certain rules against their students getting drunk.

They had butterbeer. She wasn't drunk. Just being goofy.

Because it taste good and it is what the characters in the book drink, so it is cool. Besides if you want a real beer you can always get a Hogshead Brew. Also very good.

If you are a house elf and would like to get drunk, then yes, you should drink butterbeer. If you are a muggle and would like to get drunk, try the Hogs Head Brew. If you are a muggle or house elf and would not like to get drunk, drink in moderation :P

LOL Butterbeer tastes like a light rootbeer with a little butterscotch to it. It is sweet. We got one and shared.

People line up forever for it because it is the "experience" of drinking what the fictional characters drink. Just about the same common sense as people waiting for hours to go into a shop to have a piece of wood choose them and then charging them $30 for the whole thing. Really good marketing. :)

Unfortunatly I read somewhere that Hog's Head is not allowed to mix or add any of their alcohol with Butterbeer even though both is provided.

However suppose you were to buy a cup of beer and a cup of butterbeer and went back to your table and pour the two of them into your butterbeer mug...:wizard:

I believe Harry & friends were permitted to drink "fire whiskey" in the last couple of books.
Butterbeer was for all ages. I can't wait to try it!

..and then go running for the nearest toliet. Butterbeer is so, well, sweet and dessert-ish. It would be like putting butterscotch snapps and carmel flavored whipped topping in a Coors Light. :scared1

I like beer, I like beer A LOT but that hoppy, yeasty, barley taste just wouldn't go well with a butterbeer.
