When my ds was 1 and 2 he was scared of the characters any where we went. I would sit him near you and away from the other children so they can get close and he can see them from a safe distance. I have also seen where the children warm up to the characters after a few sightings. Just hold him and stay as far away as needed for him to feel safe. He may surprise you after a day of looking at them from afar.
