busy easter or wet august ??

although we arent going til 2014 i am really torn between these two dates

i wont be able to take my daughter out of school as she will be starting her gcses in june so that leave only easter or august for us to go

i know that easter is heaving but the weather may be more in our favour however there will obviously be no free dining

august weather worries me plus with being a nervous flyer and hurricane season i am concerned that i would be really uncomfortable - however the lure of free dining and maybe being able to go for 3 weeks as we would have longer to save is a huge carrot

this is going to be also part of our daughters 16th birthday as i cant imagaine many more holidays she will want with me as im not cool apparently lol
like i said i know its way in advance but prices for easter will probably come out at the end of this year so i just wanted to get it straight in my head before i become very strict on saving

Either time is busy. If you have special deals in August like free dining, I'd go for that.

i'd go for the wet August over the HUGE VERY HUGE crowds of Easter. WDW Touring plans have predicted the park crowds for next Easter at a 10/10 for most of the two weeks! They are significantly lower the later in August you go. If you are able to go the last week of August and the first week of Sept approx, they predict the crowds to be around a high of 5 down to lows of 1. The wet weather is normally over quite quickly in August. I'd take the tropical storms over the crowds any day

Go for August. I'm a secondary school teacher and the exam season is starting earlier and earlier each year, far earlier than June. Go once they're over so you and your daughter can fully enjoy it without worrying about pending exams. We were there mid-end of August last summer and I have to admit I had similar worries about crowds and flying, none of which were realised. BTW, it's well worth telling Virgin ahead of time if you're a nervous flyer - the cabin crew were really reassuring throughout the flight.

i was so nervous last may when we went and took diazapam stugeron and kalms so even when we had to put our seatbelts on i really didnt care

i just figure i could have longer to save and really make it special as she is saying that when shes 17 she wants to do the festival thang

i now have enough time to plan and get a folder together and make it perfect !!

plus i can save all my clubcard vouchers now and get it even cheaper which means i can stay for longer !!

We (me and DH) have been last week August first week Sept, wasn't our choice but work obligations. Anyway it wasn't too busy, we have normally been october and didn't see much difference in waiting. And wasn't that wet that I can remember, just didn't like the "love bugs" but they are just annoying more than anything and many around the water areas. My daughter is 4 and I am relishing my time of being "cool" as I know it will come to an end one day. Happy planning!

We've been both Easter and August due to not taking the children out of school. Easter was lovely but busy and we only had a 10 day holiday as I didn't want to pay extra to fly out on a weekend day and I like to give the children a couple of days to recover from jet lag before they start back at school. As August is a much longer holiday we decided to try it out last year, just to see how it would be. We too were worried about the weather, the heat, the humidity and the possibility of some nasty storms. In all honesty the heat wasn't as bad as I'd expected and when hurricane Irene threatened I wasn't half as scared as I thought I might be. Although it didn't reach Florida the coverage on the news and weather channels was so comprehensive that we knew almost minute by minute what to expect and when to expect it. They are so used to dealing with this type of weather that it really isn't a major deal. The afternoon rain didn't spoil much - we always managed to find something inside to do whilst the worst of the rain came down and a couple of our late afternoon/early evening ADR's (around 4 o'clock) saw us safely eating whilst it chucked it down outside. We actually once visited in May (2009) and saw worse rain than we did last August. We also took advantage of the longer school holidays and went for 3 weeks and for me now I would easily choose 3 weeks in August over 2 weeks at Easter. We've already booked for August 2013 so it obviously wasn't that bad. As people have said go as late in August as you can as the American schools begin to return during the second week and things get noticeably quieter.

We have been during April and August. Of the two, we far prefer August.

April weather was warm during the day but quite cool in the evenings. We had a couple of days that were actually quite chilly. The crowds, however, were massive (and we went two weeks before the Easter weekend).

Yes, there can be rain showers in August (usually in the afternoons) but in our experience they are few and far between and are usually over as soon as they start. The worst thing about August is probably the humidity but you can manage that by getting to the parks early and taking breaks in the afternoon, returning again in the evening when it is cooler. That way, you may well miss any heavy afternoon showers. Hurricane season tends to be end of August into September (although there are no guarantees).

Definitely August. The weather at Easter has always been lovely but the crowds have been awful. The last two weeks of August has much lower crowd levels although it is very humid.

Pick august any day! We went august last year. I would try to go later on in the month for lighter crowds, but for us brits the weather was lovely and hot (the humidity was fine to deal with, just take breaks from the parks in the afternoons) although you do get thunderstorms in the afternoon usually but they are really short, unlike the drizzle in the UK we get all day

Free dining is great. I would go for August!

We far prefer August but we have had mixed weather on our Easter trips, I remember one while staying at the Fairfield Inn LBV we had wind, cold and rain the first week(7th-14th Apr), 2nd week back to usual April temps.
Crowds are crazy at Easter weekend abd following week, usually quieter our 2nd week.
August can be rainy, sometimes don't see a drop of rain whole holiday you can't know, I just know the temps are far better for us in Aug(too high for others)

like i said its not for a couple of years but i wanted to have a definate date to save towards

as we have never done universal or busch gardens etc i think we are really going to go for it and have 1 week at disneyworld then maybe a few nights at a universal hotel then somewhere on i drive - i have no idea who to go through or wether to put it together myself or go as a package so i can imagine i will be on here a lot over the coming months picking brains

its the friendliest forum im a member of !!
