I'm sooo confused after going to my second dress fitting about what kind of bustle I want for my dress. I have an organza over satin A-line dress and I think it has at least 5 layers total or something! *gulp* Something like a bottom slip/puffy layer, a heavy satin layer, and 3 layers of organza, plus lace + beading ending around the knees, with the train being just floaty unembellished organza. It was supposed to be a sweep length train but it's actually way longer than that since I got a regular length dress, but I'm only 5'1"!

Can any of you ladies share pictures of your bustle? Like one pic of what your train looked like down/normal, and then a second pic of what your dress looked like after it was bustled?

I would love to get some better ideas and inspiration from fellow brides. My seamstress showed me two different options and neither really seemed that great. I probably should've brought in pictures to her... so now I'm trying to gather pics!

TIA for your help.

Hi. I had a 6 notch bustle, not sure if that is what it is called but I just know I had six buttons the loops had to connect too.

Here is my train unbustled

Ended up going with a double french bustle
(aka lots of little hooks under my dress)

I like the double french. Not sure if would work on my gown but I will bring this photo to my fitting.

Thanks,
Linda

I also used a typical double French Bustle. It worked well with my gown because I had a satin ballgown. It had ties not buttons and it is a little more expensive and a bit harder to tie (my planner helped do it) but worth it in the end imo...

Oh wow, these are really helpful pics. Thank you!

I never knew there were so many types of bustles LOL.

I really want one that makes my dress look like it flows like a regular dress. I don't know if that makes any sense hehe.

Does more points on the bustle mean that the bustle lays more flat and is less puffy? 'Cause I think one of the ones my seamstress did show me was a 3 point french bustle but I thought it was way too puffy and messed up the nice flow of the organza.

I didn't bring anyone with me to take pics, I wish I did! Oh well.

BTW, keep the pics coming! I'm amazed at how wonderfully these dresses were transformed by the bustles, and hopefully this'll help all future brides too!

Sounds like you want a ballroom-style bustle. :thumbsup2

More points usually means more pouffy because each point makes another pouf. However, some simpler bustles may still require a lot of points if the train is very heavy. The one your seamstress showed you was probably a French bustle. Just tell her you want less pouf, but lots of strength! :)

I had a french bustle. I had the ribbons that tie together

I didn't love my bustle b/c I love the puffy look, it was 3 simple ties but with the way the color is in my gown, this is what they said worked best (and was my only offered option....I wish I had thought to ask if there was anything else, but I never really paid attention) Oh well, there aren't that many pictures of it ;)

Hey Carrie,

Thanks for that link! I had no idea how I was going to do my bustle, and lo and behold that link had my exact dress and how they did it! (Yes that was the worlds worst run on sentence! lol).

You rock! :cool1:

I think you earned a pass from the Grammar Gods for spelling "lo and behold" correctly!:lmao:

Same thing with me. My dress is similar to one of the dresses on there and now I know what bustle I am doing for fine! Thanks Carrie!!

:worship: Thank you O'Grammar Gods! :worship: lol!!! Who knew I could spell when tired?

StitchBride it looks like we have the same dress. Is yours Alfred Angelo 1516? Mines in Claret. I'm having a red button put half way down the middle of the train and hoisted up to the bottom of the zip / bow. Because of all the buttons down the back you shouldn't really notice it.

I think thats the one, I can't remember. Def. Alfred Angelo though! And that's how they did mine....there was a loopy thingy (the very technical term) that use one of the trains buttons to tie it up and then there were two other tie things to spread the blue out but I don't think mine were done well since the blue got all bunchy
