Busted for Pool Hopping???

With all the talk of pool hopping, I was wondering if anyone has actually seen what happens when a person/family is caught in the act? I don't agree with pool hopping, and would never do it. Just curious about what happens to those who do? Also, who is charged with policing this?

The people in charge would have to be lifeguards because they are the ones who will check the guests KTTW cards either when they arrvie to get towels, or while they are sitting down at the pool chairs. That is what has happened when I stayed at the Contemporary. Last month when I stayed at the Polynesian we got the towels ourselves and no one came up to my family and I asking to see our KTTW cards. Of course that could have happened when we were not at the pool.

I saw security guards walking through the pool area, checking resort IDs at the WL pool a couple of years ago. They even came down to the beach, where I was sitting, to check IDs. I did see them ask a family that could not produce IDs to leave the pool, and the guard stood nearby while the family packed up their things and left.

Slightly off topic, but I don't get the whole idea of pool-hopping. I enjoy a nice pool as much as the next person but to waste my precious vacation time pool-hopping makes no sense to me. I don't think I've ever seen anyone check IDs at the PO resorts but I don't use the pool that much.

I've seen people asked to leave SAB, the Polynesian pool, and the BW pool. As another poster stated, either security or a lifeguard will ask for ID's, and then ask the party to leave if they don't have them. They will linger near them to make sure they do leave.

One cold January morning, DH and I wandered down to the theme pool at the GF and were asked for ID--we were in street clothes with no bag that we might have bathing suits in. We were staying at the hotel, so no biggie, but they were obviously enforcing the rules, and there wasn't even anyone in the pool!

We've been asked to show ID's everytime at SAB and once at the Contemporary when we were pool hopping from OKW ( rules for DVC members permit that at certain resorts during non-peak times). They checked other people at the Contemporary too but I know they were "looking" at my family of 8 since the girl at the towel counter kept staring at us, even after my husband had shown her all our KTTW cards with "DVC Member" and explained the rules. I guess she still thought she should report us. The manager who came around didn't say a word as of course we were allowed and I just smiled at the girl at the counter to indicate I knew who decided we needed intense scrutiny. I've known a family that was kicked out of SAB before they were doing so much enforcing at that resort. They were kindly asked to pack up and leave and they did so. They were s/a Ft. Wilderness campground and I guess didn't like the pool there. I guess I'm a "rules person" and am glad this one is enforced. It's not fair to the people paying to stay in a particular resort, which presumably could be for the purpose of enjoying that specific pool and to have it too crowded with either guests not s/a that resort or local folks. Knowing how Disney does things I'd think they'd always allow a guest to pack up their dignity along with their belongings and would think the "best" about the guest. Perhaps they didn't know pool hopping wasn't allowed, for instance or perphaps they needed a gentle reminder. I don't know what would happen if someone refused to leave. I also don't know what what they do with disruptive guests as I've never really witnessed an argument or confrontation over behavior.---Kathy

We were at TL a few months ago, and I overheard a man telling the people he was with that he had friends who lived in the area who specifically went to the Disney resorts to swim in the pools-they didn't even visit the parks

I've stayed no higher than mod level on several visits. Never had anyone so much as look sideways at me(of course I was at my own resort, so...). I just wonder what kind of flags would go off ? If you walk into the area, place your stuff on a chair and get into the pool without looking like Inspector Clouseau skulking onto the scene... I wonder what sets party A apart from Party B ?

Because some of the pools on Disney property are in high demand, i.e. StormAlong Bay, guests of both Yacht and Beach Club are issued colored wristbands when they enter the pool area. They have to show their room key to get it. when lifeguards notice that someone is in the pool without the wristband, they are asked to leave.

The lifeguard simply explained only guests of the resort could swim there and told them they wouldn't be able to stay.

Last August at SAB over at the Beach club. The cm simply politely told a couple that they would have to get wrist bands. When they said they weren't guest at the YC/BC, the cm just said the pool unfortunately was reserved for hotel guest. He did recommend the quiet pool to them. I think in the summer they probably enforce more due to the crowds.

I have never seen it enforced but I have to agree with the other poster why would you pool hop if you have your own pool. Kind of wierd to me.

I think its great the they are enforcing the rules!!! Question though, can you still go look around at the pools at resorts you are not staying at? On our off days, we sometimes resort hop to look around at all there is to see, but never in a million years would I think to use another resorts pool. Gosh, I'd be way too embarrassed about getting caught. My Disney time is too precious to me to risk being kicked off property(not sure if they do that or not, but still)totally not worth it IMO

We stayed at GF last September. We spent quite a bit of time in the pools, both the courtyard one and beach one. We were never asked for room keys and saw no enforcement whatsoever.

Well here's a senario....We are staying at CSR for 4 nights. Then we're checking out and checking in at ASMo. The day we check out of CRS is our planned "pool day". Anyone think we'll have a problem swimming at CRS pool that day?

just kept your keys (ID) - they are good until midnight on your check out day. So you shouldn't have any problems.

We just back from the BC and I was chatting with the lifegaurd wile the kids swam. He said SAB is the most strict as far as pool hopping goes. But he said the rules are only enforced until about 5:00pm, that because thats when you get most of the traffic from people walking over from epcot,mgm....etc.

I think this is true, because I have to admit that I pool-hopped once in my life (a long time ago). I was staying at Dolphin and was really curious about SAB, so I figured I would try it. It was a misty June day after 5 (I know the time because I was on a school trip and it was after sessions were over). No one looked at me at all, but the pool was very slow because of the weather...

I have to say though I was so stressed about getting caught that I did not even really enjoy it...

Anyway, of course now that I am grown and realize how selfish poolhopping is, I would never do it again and I have learned my lesson.
