For those of you who have stayed offsite...

I like the diea of staying at one of the hotels in the DTD area. I was wondering how the shuttle service is...

Umm, it's not good. The buses only come at specific times, not every so many minutes like Disney's. Then, you have to ride it around to several different hotels before heading to the parks. When you get to the parks, they drop you off in the middle of nowhere -- the same place where tour buses go, if you know where that is. So, it can be a decent walk to the park entrance and, if you have kids, that includes across a busy parking lot. Finally, at MK, they take you to TTA, so you still have to get across the lake before getting to the park entrance.

Bottom line -- if you're taking their buses, plan lots of time to get where you're going. And, don't plan to leave the parks whenever either, as those are on a schedule also.

Its doable but not at all to my liking.

Our hotel had free bus service so I said why not try it?

That lasted one time only and even with that is was way more then I wanted to do.

I love having access to a car. Even on site I want a car. I know many love DWTransportation just not me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We live an hour and half away but we go to Orlando on lots of mini vacations.
When we stay at disney we always use the transportation, it is much easier than our car and it's fun! BUT when we stay off site, we always take our car.
We tried the shuttle once and I remember sitting in the dark at the Ticket center after the fireworks for at least an hour and thinking "my car is in the hotel parking lot right down the road, I could be home by now" Then we had to stop at every hotel near Lake Buena Vista before getting to ours.

We just returned from a stay at DTD. We WERE NOT happy with their busses, and heard lots of complaints. They over-packed all the busses (I am not just talking the standing passengers that even WDW busses do), I am talking unbelievably crowded. Then we had to make several stops. Final straw was the last night, leaving MK after fireworks, last bus due at 12:25. At 12:20 the driver from the other bus route says "I'm not sure if he's coming, so I'll stick around a few more minutes." :scared1: :scared1:
Another rider said "yeah, he never showed at the xx:25 slot this afternoon". The other driver acts like it's no big deal. When I'm standing on a dark sidewalk after midnight with 3 small sleepy kids, I do NOT want to hear that the bus may not show up!! I won't even consider using DTD buses again.
