Busses during Marathon?

DH and I are going for a romantic Disney getaway during marathon weekend. {No, we aren't running, just happened to be the weekend we could both go..} We will be at POP and relying on the bus system. We don't HAVE to get to the parks for opening, so can anyone advise as to best time to leave POP for the parks? I know that early probably isn't good due to the Marathon, but I am not sure. Any advice? TIA!

On the morning of marathon day, busses are the BEST way to get around WDW. THe drivers are kept very up-to-date on closures and traffic conditions, and there will be some routes that are *only* open to busses.

If you add an extra ten minutes to the time you would normally allow for a bus trip, you'll be just fine. By lunchtime, everything is pretty much back to normal.

And during the day, if you see folks wearing their finishers medals around the parks, be sure to ask how the race went.

Just to note that this year, for the 1st time, the marathon weekend is different. The 1/2 marathon, 5K & Family Fun races are on Saturday, the full marathon is on Sunday.

Also, the buses that are used for the marathon are not only the disney buses--they bring in charters from all over. The marathon buses and spectator buses run early--3-4 am for the participants. I don't think you would see much disruption in service for the regular routes.

I was there for the last marathon weekend and will be again next week . The morning of the marathon '05 traffic was JAMMED even Disney buses so just beware that it can happen again. And now its two days because the event has been split up. Just leave a bit of extra time and some pixie dust!
