Is there any way to get around the chartered buses for custom weddings? I need 2 buses for 8 hours...it's so expensive! Does anyone know of anyway to save???

I could be wrong, but I think it depends on your reception location. There is no way around it for us since we are having our reception in a park. My concern is do you have to be renting it for the time of the ceremony or the time that everyone is eating...that seems like a waste of money to me! :)

I think it has to be both the ceremony and reception so people can get to and from each place easily from their hotel. It is quite pricey though!

I had a custom vow renewal and had to use chartered transportation. A private motor coach picked up my guests at their resorts and transported them to the Wedding Pavilion. That was strictly for their convenience. There were, however, a few guests who chose to travel to the Wedding Pavilion in their personal vehicles. However, when it came time for my dinner reception, everyone had to board the motor coach. There were no if’s, and’s, and but’s about it since my dinner party was being held inside the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. That was one of Disney’s rules and it had to be adhered to.

Since I don’t know where your reception is being held, I can’t help you with your answer. Please discuss it with your FTW Event Manager. Maybe there is an option that will be more cost effective for you. Your FTW Event Manager will know for sure.

By the way, Cheeks605, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I wish you nothing but happiness.

we used charter buses for our wedding and they are great! they do save you a lot of money and can transport everyone to the ceremony and reception.

I posted the following in another thread a few months ago but thought I would post it here, too. By the way, I hired a motor coach and was charged for 9 hours of usage (even though the motor coach sat idle for a major portion of that time).

Having a private motor coach was very convenient for everyone involved. And if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely hire it in a heartbeat.

Having a private motor coach allowed each of my guests a truly carefree evening. They didn't have to worry about getting lost on their way to the Wedding Pavilion. They didn’t have to worry about getting lost on their way to the dinner party. They didn't have to worry about getting lost on their way back to their resort at the end of the evening. All they had to worry about was arriving at the motor coach’s pickup point, which was right in front of their resort.

Another important point about hiring a private motor coach was that my guests could drink cocktails and champagne throughout the evening without worrying about the effects of drinking and driving. When their night ended, a private motor coach was going to drop them off at their resort’s front doorstep. That assured all involved an extremely safe evening.

I went ahead and posted two photos that show the private motor coach that was used on the evening of my vow renewal. The first photograph captures how my sister felt about being whisked away on one of the most magical nights of her life (that photo was taken at the Wedding Pavilion). The second photo gives you a glimpse of my guests backstage at the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park.

I hope that helped.

My BEO states 47 people is max for the charter bus as 8 people is max for the limo.

Thanks...that helped a lot. I know it's a great idea, I just wish there was a way to get around paying for hours that the bus just sits! Thanks for your kind words!!

It totally depends on your locations...where is your ceremony and your reception?

I only used the bus for the minimum time and it really was worth the money. I did not provide guests with a ride home from the reception--they were on their own for that. It made it cheaper...and then I wasn't paying for a bus to sit there for 4 hours. We had talked about using one bus very efficiently but in the end decided it was worth the extra $400 to not worry about it!

The ceremony is at the wp and reception at the bw. how did most of your guests get back to their hotel??

I agree with Codie. Maybe u should just rent the buses for the minimum (which I think is 4 or 5 hours). Just have the buses pick the guests up from the ceremony to the reception and home. Or pick them up for the ceremony and to the reception and let them figure out how to get home.

By the way, congrats!!!!

Will cabs pick people up at the WP if they are notified? My problem is that a lot of the people are not staying on property or at the designated room block hotel and I am afraid if Disney has to go to ASM, POFQ, BC,WL and GF I will be charged more since it will take longer. My aunt just wondered if a can could drop you off and pick you up?

Two replies ....

First, my guests were on their own for getting back. The reception ended at 8, we watched the fireworks at 9...afterwards, some enjoyed the BW and others went with us to PI, others went back to their hotels (via normal Disney transportation).

Second, for Allison--I made it pretty clear that if you weren't staying at a STOP, you had to get to one. No one had a problem with it--the only real issue was that I had people staying at all the epcot resorts...they all just walked over to the BW and got picked up there. Make it easy on yourself--they chose to go against the grain, they are on their own.
