From what I have heard the bus system run 1 hour after park closes. If we were to head to a resort and and stay till after 10 for a drink we would have to take the extra long way back to the resort we are staying at? Or do they tend to run a bit more in the winter to help guest who are getting around better.

Buses run until the park is completely cleared of guests.

You will not be able to take a bus to a park that is closed.

I can't answer your specific question without more information. Which specific resorts are you asking about?

Like if we were at GF for decorations and dinner and a drink....and needed to get back to Wilderness....now I know we could head to DTD and than grab a bus back but wasn't sure.

If the parks aren't an option, I would just take a taxi. IMHO, it's completely worth the cost of a cab in order to avoid busing and transferring at DTD.

Whats the average for a taxi ride around the area. I remember taking one several years ago for a wedding but I don't remember paying since we weren't the last people being dropped off and I was trying to make sure my drunk husband got back to the room ok and quiet.

The WDW property is over 40 square miles, so cab rides can vary greatly depending on your origin and destination. There is an on-line app that lets you predict taxi fares from point A to point B, but I don't have the link handy at the moment. Perhaps another poster will chime in with the link for you.

If you're traveling Christmas or New Years week, the MK will be open until at least midnight every night, so you can transfer at MK until at least midnight.

If you're traveling earlier in December, the MK is open until midnight 5 nights a week for MVMCP or EMH. On those nights, you'll be able to transfer at MK until midnight. On the other 2 nights, you'll have to transfer at DS (formerly DTD.)
