Bus Service at POR?

How are the buses at POR? I was talking to someone who said she stopped staying at POR because the bus service was getting really bad. They'd wait over an hour to get a bus to the MK and that was during the value season. I was really interested in trying out a new resort, but after talking to her I'm hesitant to book. I'd like to get more than one person's opinion before completely ruling out this resort.

My last two trips I have stayed at POR. At the beginning of March, and then at the beginning of December. Both times, the bus situation was excellent. Whatever bus I was waiting for always seemed to be there within 5 minutes. In fact, the worst bus situation I had was in December when we were actually taking the bus to the Swan/Dolphin to go to the miniature golf course. It was quite literally my own personal hell to ride around to all those deluxe resorts, just trying to get back to Downtown Disney so I could get back to POR.

I think what it comes down to is that any one of the resorts can have a day where the bus situation is off. There are probably hundreds of reasons why there can be a delay. And when it is your bus at your resort that is delayed, or full, or whatever, then the resort you are staying at then has the worst bus service. But for all the complaints about POR buses, I never had that issue. And for all the RAVES about the buses at Pop Century, I had horrible experiences with the buses there, and loved being at the All Stars, even if I had to share once or twice during the week.

So, don't stress about it. Enjoy the beautiful POR. It is my favorite resort that I have stayed at so far. And don't stress about waiting for the bus. Be glad you don't have to drive for the duration of your vacation! :goodvibes

Hi OP

ive never had an issue with Port Orleans.

we stayed their 2 now on property and had 2 very excellent vacations with PO

the transport was never an issue, busses are usually fairly quick, somtimes their was a CM with a little laptop and if alot of people were waiting another bus would be sent for. (not sure if this is the norm - happened on both vactions tho)

the food was really good in my opinion they had the counter service hall which you could get, sandwiches, pizza, pasta pots, roast dinners, burgers, the works it was really good value i thought

i was loving the pasta pot counter service meal it was somthing different from the usual counter service meals.

the rooms i had were always really tidy never had an issue with mousekeeping at all.

all the cm were really friendly around the resort, all the staff in the general store were amazing and friendly.

you really should try this resort its really amazing.

Ny nieces and I stayed at POR back in January and had no bus problems to speak of. Getting to/from parks was never more than a 10 minute wait. And we park hopped like crazy -- my youngest niece got a stomach bug and was violently ill for the first night and we missed the entire second day of our 4 day trip with her throwing up all day long. However, she and her sister are troopers and day 3 and 4 -- we hit everything they wanted to see and more -- buses never stopped us and we were on them a lot!

We have stayed at POR for our last 6 trips. While there has been an occasional wait here and there, we've never had too many problems with the buses. My only advice is to wait at one of the outer stops....not the one by the front. That stop is the one that seems to cause the waits because it is always so crowded!

We love POR! Every trip we consider changing to Poly or something and we never do. It's such a beautiful resort....and so peaceful! So nice to return to it after a busy day at the parks.

I consider this the best response to people who are worried about horror stories they have heard about the bus service at the resort they are thinking about staying at. I could not have said this any better than Cleverocks!

The bus service is pretty much the same at all resorts; buses to each destination are supposed to run on average about every 20 minutes. So why do so many people insist it's bad one place and good at another? Human nature, or at least two aspects of human nature. One is a phenomenon you can call the "grass is always greener" effect (everyone else's experience seems better than our own), and the other is the mistaken assumption that what happens to us once is the way it usually is for most people at most times.

"The grass is always greener ...." For EVERY resort, you can find posts from people saying something like this: "We waited forever at closing time at Magic Kingdom for a bus to (our resort) while we watched 4 buses from (another resort) drive on by." Seriously, there's not a resort this hasn't been written about.

The second point is perhaps the more important point. Just because you have a not-so-great experience with buses at a resort doesn't mean the bus service stinks. It could mean they were having a rough day or two. But more likely it means that you were just unlucky with timing.

My example is my stay at Polynesian a couple years ago. We noticed by our second or third day that we never, and I mean NEVER, waited more than about 2 minutes for whatever bus we wanted, whether going from resort to park or park to resort. So we started to joke about it as we walked up to the Poly bus stop in the morning or to a park bus stop when leaving a park, but it always worked that way for that entire week.

So, should we conclude from that that Polynesian has the best bus service ever? Absolutely NOT. It just means our timing was very lucky. Imagine another family that did everything exactly like we did, only they always did it exactly 2 minutes later than we did. They would've had a dreadful bus experience, as they would've waited almost 20 minutes for every single bus for an entire week. Does their bad experience mean Poly has bad bus service? Of course not, just like my great experience doesn't mean it has the best bus service.

In the same way, my great bus service at Caribbean Beach Resort in 2005 and my so-so bus service at Port Orleans French Quarter in 2006 DOESN'T mean that CBR's bus service is better than POFQ's, it just means that my individual experiences on those exact days was better at CBR than at POFQ.

And that's why we read such mixed reviews of bus service at various resorts. Just because someone had a lot of wait time doesn't mean the bus service stinks.

I strongly advise you to pick a Moderate resort based on the theme, as well as the small ways they differ in amenities.

That's very true!!

Here's the thing...you can have a less than stellar bus experience at any resort. The worst I've had??? Going to DHS from the Polynesian. It was awful. But I have to think it was a one time thing.
The bus service is pretty decent at all resorts. Which one has the best service??? Pop and AoA. Why?? They don't share a route with any other resort, nor do they make any addtl stops within the resort. There is one bus stop...everyone goes there, gets on a bus, and goes to the park, no stopping.

I have stayed at POR three times now. And I have never, ever had an issue with the buses there. I have used the main bus stop as well as the outer lying stops that were closer to my room. No issues at all.

Stayed at POR 3 times, never had issues. Our last stay was two weeks and it was always fine. The internal route takes some time but isn't bad.

I've stayed at POR plenty of times, and there was usually no longer than a 10 minute wait for a bus to the place we were going. I really have big doubts about what OP's friend said about waiting an hour for a bus to MK. Believe me, if more than 30 minutes had gone by, I bet there would be POR guests complaining loudly. What I like to do at POR is walk to the main hotel building and get our bus from the bus depot there. It's the first stop at POR, and you're almost sure to get a seat. Same with coming back to POR. We get off at the main building and stop in the gift shop or listen to Yehaa Bob for a little while. Since the resort is like a big wheel, with a few bridges over the central waterway, it's not far from any building to the main building.

I don't know, before our last vacation at ASMo, I'd heard that the ASMo buses weren't great. When we went, it was difficult enough that it impacted our vacation. When I heard the same thing about POR buses, I made arrangements to have a minivan while we're there. What I've heard about POR is that the buses stop at POFQ first so there may only be standing room when they get to POR. This was what happened also at ASMo after the buses stopped at ASSp and ASMu first. Previously we had no issues with buses at ASMu or POP.

The hour wait sounds like a fluke and could happen anywhere. If it was in value season, there may have been fewer buses running and longer waits between buses.

POR is our resort of choice and we usually don't have bus problems. Once in a while we will wait longer than we should have to buy I'm sure that can happen at any resort.

Generally speaking, if the bus us full or mostly full when it leaces pofq, the driver will radio to send an empty bus to por, or if he has some room, stop at just the first stop st por, again letting dispatch know he/she cannot do all four stops at por. At peak times the resorts have their own busses.
