I remember once a "conversation" with Dissers that you have a preference to a certain bus model compared to another.

Is there a specific bus itself you like?

Just another one of my random pointless questions.

I'm not a big fan of the Nova LFS low-floor bus. Good concept, but many flaws combined with a lack of quality control make the bus junk. It does have the advantage though of being a full low-floor bus. The new Gillig Advantage (and just about every other low-floor bus out there) has steps to get to the rear deck.

But of course, I prefer the RTS. I drove a '79 and an '82 RTS today, both were excellent buses. They were in just as good of condition mechanically and physically as the '92 RTS that I also drive. The RTS is a time tested and proven design. Not the most ergonomic, and does have its share of little flaws, but, overall, it's just a great bus.

As for a specific bus, 4805 is my baby. :)

Why 4805? Well, for one, it used to be the only bus that could display Mickey Ears! (Sadly, she no longer can...)

4805 is a 1994 RTS, manufactured by Transportation Manufacturing Corp, and is equipped with a Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine, which is a 4-cylinder turbo charged engine. (Most of our RTS's feature the 6-cylinder Detroit Diesel 6v92 engine, which is rock-solid reliable, but lacks on emission control. The S50 is cleaner burning, and has more power, despite only being 4cyl.)

On a side note, we are actually retrofitting some of our '92 RTS's with the S50 engine, in an effort to reduce emissions. You can tell an S50 engine because it has more of a deep purr instead of a light whine. They also don't spew exhaust. :)

4805-4814 are the '94 RTS with the S50
4796, 4798, 4799, 4801, 4802, 4803 currently have been upgraded. 4795, 4797, 4800, 4804 are slated for upgrades in the next 18 months, give or take.

(BTW, forgive any random "F"s in here... my F key is stifcffffffffkinfg!)

Okay Tyler, another one for you from my 11 y/o dd. She wants to know if you have anything that identifies you when driving, other than your name tag! She said she was pretty shy about getting on a bus, and staring at the driver's chest. I know you used to have Chip and/or Dale on board with you. How can she tell if she sees you? Just got back three weeks ago and are going back for THanksgiving and she is on a Tyler search. Seems you have a 'groupie'!!!

but my husband is just excited about your discussion of the buses. No detail is too small........Thank you for sharing your insight with the rest of us. I too will be looking for you and your bus on our trip in Nov. Any further word if Disney is going to get into the airport transportation business?

You are the best........

I was much easier to find at Pop Century. Most of the time I will have Chip & Dale on my dash, but sometimes not. I am one onf the younger drivers, so that helps narrow it down a bit as well.

No 'official' word yet.

Thanks Tyler for the great answer. More than I expected.

If bus 4805 is "your baby" How often do you get to driver her? Sounds like a sick question.

Anyway, I was just wondering that if I see bus 4805 that there will be a good chance you're behind the wheel.

Not very often, I'm afraid... but I did have her the other night, and then again the next day. But when you consider we have 265 buses, and they're in random locations, it'll be awhile before I get her again.

If you click on Tyler's (chipNdaleexpress) profile ant then click on his web site. He has a couple of photos of himself. Do no know how old the photos are though.

Tyler great bus pictures in your transportation link on your web site;)

Now if I can only remember to show my dad!!:rotfl:
