Bus Loads of kids... for trick or treating.

Who cares where they are from or what color they are? They're kids for pete's sake. If they are bussed in from poor areas, that's just all the more reason you SHOULD give those kids candy.

I was just getting ready to post a thread about this. By "affluent" and "less affluent" do you mean black and white? Because we have had almost no "neighborhood" (read white) kids tonight - only three families. But I've had about thirty or forty "out of the neighborhood" (read black) families with kids of all ages.

Some of my neighbors, I am sure, have an issue with this. But, this is my opinion:

Any child who comes to my house on Halloween is to be treated by me and my children with respect and with a full understanding of the reason for this night. They will be given candy, they will get compliments on their costume, and they will have a good experience at my house. Period. No matter how old they are. No matter what color they are. No matter whether or not they made an effort to wear a costume.

If I were a mom on "the other side of town" I'd do exactly the same thing - take my children to a neighborhood where there are safe streets and people who can afford to hand out a Twix bar for my kids. I'm grateful I can buy candy, I'm happy my girls are out trick or treating and having fun, and if I can provide that for someone else's kids, I'll do it every time.

We haven't had actual buses, but we have had several vans tonight. And all those kids have gotten a Happy Halloween from me!!!!

Gee, can you tell I feel strongly about this????

I agree with you 100% - a MILLION percent!!!

I have a guy whom grew up on the South Side of Chicago (read: black) He couldnt, wasnt allowed, completely dangerous to go Trick or Treating. His Mom, also worked nights and couldnt drive him to an "Affluent" (safer) neighborhood to do so. Imagine never having trick or treated!!!

He also didnt do anything on 4th of July cuz you cant tell the difference between gunshots & firecrackers. So, he'd sit in his house, all the lights out (no targets... you see) all night on 4th of July.

Pass the candy out to the busloads.... geez! Theyre kids!

Amen. It is sad that people still see skin color at all, much less equate it with poverty. :guilty:

My neighborhood has mostly retirees in it so we took the kids to the mall to Trick or Treat. It was our first year doing this and the kids has a great time. the hours were from 5:30-8:00, we were there when it started, but by 6:30 most stores were out of candy. I'm glad I got there early, but I felt sad for the disappointed kids that would get there later.

My grandsons brothers on moms side comes to our town to trick or treat, they live in a not so safe neighborhood. (mom and dad are divorced GS lives with dad)We all feel safer for them to come to our area for trick or treating. We all have normal size homes but we don't have street gangs like they do.

I guess next year I will have to ask the parents for a photo ID or utility bill to make sure their kids are Trick-or-Treating in the appropriate neighborhood.

Who worries about such things???? And I have to say some of the comments on this thread are borderline racist. Good Lord who cares if a kid is from a "less affluent" neighborhood, at least they are enjoying themselves on a night meant for kids to have fun. Some people are such snobs.

Actually our neighborhood is at least 50% black. These are the people who decide the homeowner's policies, and they didn't want busloads here (I just moved here a few months ago). I also think that is why they went with t-o-t hours of 5-7pm, to reduce the possibility of dangerous activity, like vandalism and gun issues. We had lots of cops cruising through last night. Heck the cops (most are black) may have recommended that neighborhoods do this. It's a real problem here, it's just the way it is, sad but true. I think the trend is to discourage door to door t-o-t in this day and age (at least in cities like this) and go with public organized activities for safety of all involved. Only about 30% of houses here participated anyway, there's probably 250 houses here. But we had a great time, t-o-t and handing out candy.

I live in a townhouse and the majority of the housing around my neighborhood are apartments so we get a good amount of kids from there. I don't care, I love to decorate and each year I have parents tell me that they keep coming back to see my decorations. :goodvibes

I have a cemetary with tombstones, a casket, and big foam skulls and I have been collecting those metal pumpkin and ghost shaped candle holders which I set up all over the yard. I decided to use those rather than "kill" a real pumpkin.
