Bring back the old uniforms and rebuild the old GMC RTS busses, then reinstall the old Transign brand route identifiers.

This is what first came to my mind when I saw the photos of the uniforms:

"Welcome to Sky Burger, can I take your order please?"

Somebody knows their buses. The RTS buses are still there. They do rebuild them, but there are fewer and fewer of them. It was ahead of it's time. I've been told that they've stopped making them. Most drivers prefer the newer ones but most drivers also appreciate the RTS design.

I grew up just 10 miles from the plant that they built them in on Pontiacs east side, I worked for a company that sold industrial supplies to all of the plants. Through the years I worked there I moved up from making deliveries to the plant to eventually working the order desk, occasionally we would have to go into the plants to meet people. I got several tours of the bus plant during that time, seeing them from start to finish, the bare structure was very impressive when it was in the welding area. When the busses were assembled they would take them for shakedown drives to check for defects. the area around the Silverdome in pontiac was a common place to see shiny new busses being readied for shipment. I always thought the styling was timeless on these trucks, the sound and smell of them brings back a lot of memories, the old 2 cycle Detroits were always easy to pick out by the sound. GM stopped production of the busses many years ago, IIRC the early 80's but I think the tooling and rights were sold and production continued after GM sold it off.

At first I thought you were joking (hard for me to tell with this group sometimes :)) but I "googled" and these are real. Not very "Disney". I agree that they look like Bolivian Army. Seems like they could do theme costumes... Davey Crockett for FW, Buzz Lightyear for MK, etc...

At one time the busses in fort wilderness were operated by Fort staff and they did have Fort specific uniforms, jeans and a red plaid shirt if I recall. then it got outsourced to Disney transport.

Now the drivers don;t even have to speak with the automated system

The RTS style busses were still being made as of 09. They went thru several different owners before Millenium Transit Services acquired them from of all places Nova Bus.Im not sure if they are being made at the moment. There website is still active.

One of the resons that DT got away from the classic RTSs was the problems they were having with the wheelchair lifts. They were chronically sticking(not that the Novas ramp is any better.I dont think I ever had 1 Nova bus that the ramp worked right on)Another reason is that at the time ADA laws had changed. And if I had to guess the most compelling reason that they went with Nova, though I cant swear to it, is that the low floor Novas are cheaper.

The shirt was a blue denim at the end.At some point it may have been red.I know the drivers were given the option to come to Disney Transport. The busses were owned by Disney and were on loan to the Fort for transport.I want to say that there was at least 3 if not 5 busses back there.
Im not fond of the automated bus spiels. It takes the personal touch that Disney is famous for, out of the equation.Though I suspect that there is another reason behind it.

You people seem to think our Army uniforms are funny. It's not like we're a real army anyway. So we swaped them, yes swaped them, with Disney as they didn't have whatever currency we're using right now. So the laugh's on you because now we have those great looking purple Barney uniforms and your bus drivers look like a second rate army.
PS, Where can I get purple sneakers to go with them?

Signed, now proud and great looking Bolivian General.
:lmao:

Oh and BTW Bolivian General - we will invade and take over your country if you do not return the Barney uniforms by sunset April 11th!!!

Signed-
Pizzed Off - yet proud Floridian Old F@rt!!

I remember the old uniforms and when the drivers actually had to talk. There are still some drivers that talk to the guest and seem to be enjoying their job. However, the new bus system is alot better. I remember sometimes waiting 45 minutes or longer for a bus. So, even though the system is better, they could have left in the personal touch of drivers actually communicating.

Tassels, those aren't tassels. It's a decorative something or other on the pockets. But for some reason the men's shirts have a pretend flap on the pockets and the womens don't. I tried to get an answer but the best I could do is that they're different so the wardrobe dept. can tell them apart very quickly. Sounds good but I'm not sure that's the reason. The major complaint is that the pockets are too small.
To be fair the costumes don't look as bad in real life as the photos show them. The hat is optional and the overwhelming number of drivers are not wearing them.

thanks for the answer.

it was too difficult for me to clearly tell what it was on the pockets.
after your post, it hit me that it was a decoration type of thing.

i always liked the other uniforms.
the colors were so kewl.

but, i will get used to the new ones.
like you said, they look better in real life than in the photos.
