Hi Everyone,

Our family has decided to stay at FWC for our upcoming trip this year. HOWEVER, DH has become extremely concerned about transportation within the campground, i.e. internal bus v. external bus, long waits for bus, etc. etc.

Generally we DO NOT rent a car, and would like to avoid it again this year. We usually use WDW transportation exclusively, and enjoy not worrying about transportation. In the past, we've stayed at Poly, WL, AS, and AKL, and have not encountered problems with any of the bus routes.

Can anyone shed some light on the transportation within FW for us? Will we be kicking ourselves by day two for not renting a car?

Thanks!

Hi-we just got back and we did not rent a car There are 3 internal bus routes:PURPLE-which goes fromthe outpost bus stop to the cabins;YELLOW&ORANGE-which go from Outpost stop to Settlement bus stops(basically all over the rest of the campground)You will get a map upon check-in which clearly explains all bus routes both internal and external. Its not hard to follow. We never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a bus anywhere in WDW.We also rented a golfcart and would highly recommend doing so if finances allow.
Hope this helps!
Trish

The bus system at Ft. W is very good.

Are you staying in cabin?

If you are in a cabin...

-the purple bus goes back and forth from Outpost(where you check-in and transfer to AK or Epcot bus) to the Settlement (where Trail's End Restaurant and marina for boat to MKand transter to MGM).

-a orange bus leaving the Settlement goes to Outpost and then turns into a purple bus. So if you are in the cabins and somehow get on a yellow bus, eventually you will get where you are going.

-in the evenings when HoopDeeDoo is happening the buses are very crowded. When we wanted to go to the Settlement from the cabins we would get on any purple bus going by. It was better to go to Outpost first (at least we were on a bus moving)and then stay on till we got to the Settlement.

If you are camping...

the yellow buses travel all the camping loops.

I am sorry if this sounds confusing. It really isn't. We never had that long of a wait.

We stayed in the cabins and fell in love with Ft.W!

DH, who normally likes the convenience of having our own vehicle with us and not depending on others or transportation to get us anywhere, fell in LOVE with the convenience of Disney's transportation system!! :bounce: He said that is a definite high point of staying in FW...parking the car upon check in and not getting back into it til it's time to pull out! :bounce: :Pinkbounc We never had any problems, either using it to get around FW or taking it to a park or DTD. Simple as pie! :)
