Hi, friends & neighbors...enjoying a warm, sunny and as-always wonderful 5 days at WDW, this time w/a dear friend and her 11-year-old and her 9-year-old (first-time visitors to WDW)...SO cool!

But, Murphy's Law is in full operation!

First: it's jam-packed here! Whodda thunk for 2/3-2/8? Must be some kind of high school dance competition happening here...the place is crawling w/screaming (having a great time) teenaged girls wearing various kinds of personalized dance t-shirts...I love kids of all ages and it makes me smile to see how much fun these hordes of teenagers are having...but man oh man...the decibel level of high school girls screaming voices! A sure sign that I'm getting old, I fear (grin a big grin)...

Next: "WARNING WARNING WARNING!" I got a $200 gift card from Disney as a reward for recommending DVC to a friend, who bought in...what a deception! Turns out the card is pretty much completely worthless...it's been declined every time I tried to use it, even after the nice folks at DVC called Chase It's issued thru Chase Bank) to make it work...since I didn't expect a reward for referring my friends anyway, it's only a little bit of a loss...I had planned to use it this trip, but didn't get it til after the trip was planned & budgeted, so discovering I have to absorb an extra $200 in costs isn't all that big a deal...it was pretty acutely embarrassing the first time the card was declined...took the better part of 90 minutes for the very nice DVC guide to sort it out w/Chase (only it didn't work, as I discoverd when I tried to use it after it was supposedly made to work), and that was infuriating...but hey...I'm at Disney and SSR is wonderful, and my friend and her kids are enchanted...so not all that big a deal...but anyone who has the choice of a gift card or some other form of reward for referral...be aware that the gift cards are the world's biggest rip-off!

Last "burp": I'm in one studio, my friend & her kids are in another...two separate ME reservations, two separate dining plans (but all on my points, so I made all the arrangements)...however, Disney's infamous computers don't seem to be able to deal with this...so far the one time we ate together (i.e., paid at the same time) on the dining plan they couldn't figure out how to charge my single person dining plan for my meal and my friend's 3-person dining plan for her meals ...AND ME delivered her luggage (marked most visibly and accurately w/her villa number) to my room...again, not all that big a deal...my friend and I are perfectly capable of doing the meal plan "together" instead of separately, and it wasn't a big deal to wheel her big suitcase from my villa to hers (she's in the same building, on the same floor, but in a different "wing")...

On the plus side: we got GREAT villas...first building on the walkway to/from Downtown Disney (building one), w/downtown Disney views! Breathtaking and wonderful! Clean and pretty and "perfect!"

People here are happy and altho the parks are stuffed to the gills (T-giving level crowded), people seem so happy to be away from winter and here that it's been pure pleasure even in crowds...we're doing the early morning/fast pass strategy, so the kids are getting on all "their" rides w/acceptable levels of wait...we got ADRs at places we're very happy with (Turf Club last night; Wolfgang Puck Cafe tonight; Garden Grill at the Land/Epcot Tuesday; Chef Mickey's Wednesday; and San Angel at Mexico/Epcot Thursday...all made this morning (except for Turf Club, where we "walked in"--they told us it would be a 45-minute wait, but it actually took only 20 minutes--pretty cool!) We'll do Wishes and Illuminations and the kids think the DTD Lego Store is heaven on earth...

So far, bus service has been terrific (longest wait: 10 minutes--people standing in aisles, but we got seats...one bus ride (last night) we got off at Grandstand and walked to Turf Club and then back to Congress Park because the female teenaged screaming (by about 40 dancers) gave even our 9-year-old a headache! But they were having SO much fun; it was hard not to smile even while their shrill screams assaulted our tired senses! We just got off the bus early to escape the pandemonium!

All in all, it's another very happy time at Disney, despite more "burps & bumps" than we've had in a number of recent trips...

Happy week to all...Dani

Happy week to you too Dani. Loved reading about your trip. Have a great time.

Thanks for the post Dani. I've enjoyed reading it. Glad to hear SSR is wonderful.

WOW, Dani! Back so soon after just leaving BCV?!?! :rotfl2: Thanks for reporting on the crowds. See if you can find out what group/competition is going on. I was thinkinf og booking first week in Feb. next year....though it sounds like the last week in January is far better in terms of crowds.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like you are all having a great time in spite of the "burps". :goodvibes

I'm so jealous!!! We just got back on Saturday from a glorious 9 days at SSR.

Re: The meal plan...

We had the same issue. We had friends staying in a separate villa with their own meal plan on our points (we made all the ressies/arrangments/etc.).

Everytime we went to eat, we very clearly told the server right from the start that we were on two different plans and to make two different checks.

The first night was a nightmare (we had additional friends who live in the area join us at Narcoossee's - so we had 4 of us on one dining plan, 3 of us on another dining plan, 2 as cash and 1 as a credit card).

It took a while, but it all worked out in the end. If the server had listened to us, it would have made her life a million times easier - she had gone ahead and put everything on the same check (we also had booze to deal with in cash as well) after we had suggested she give each of us separate checks to make paying at the end easier for her. After that nightmare, it was just the two dining plan cards and every server was SOOOO relieved we told them right from the get go who was on which check (we even sat on opposite sides of the table to make it easier - which you won't have to do).

I can't believe the crowds grew so much in a few short days.

Have a magnificent time!!! Keep us updated - we also took a Disney newbie wiht us. Isn't it the best?!! It makes the whole trip that much more magical!

If the final, final answer is the card does NOT work, send it to Aunt E or T...pirate:

We tried to submit our level 2 & Level 3 referral rewards for the Visa card for our upcoming March trip. The letter said the pre-paid Visa card was an option but it was not an option on the form to send back to DVC. I called and left voicemails for the person at DVC in charge of the referral program without a call back. So I just submitted them for $ 850 credit on annual dues. I would have been upset if I received the VISA card and it was denied. Glad to see you have a positive attitude -- keep up the good karma.

Looking forward to our first stay at SSR in 6 weeks. Enjoy your vacation.

Last year when friends of ours bought DVC and used us as a referral Disney offered the $200 incentive in Disney Dollars which was great. I guess they use the Visa Gift Cards now. Sorry it was such a pain for you.

The Disney Dollars are still an option--I took that because I didn't want to deal with three cards--the rewards cards, ther regular credit card and the referral card. I guess I chose correctly. When you get home I'd send a letter and copy both sides of the card and ask for a replacement as it is something that you are entitled to.

I LOVE JimMIA's idea...Aunti E and T, here comes a bogus $200 gift card! (Grin a VERY big HUGE grin!!!)...(for those who don't get the "inside joke": Auntie E & T were players in a scam in which I was the victim...LOOOOONG thead on the topic for anyone who's interested...see the "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sticky at the top of the R/T Board...the "sad story" thread is linked in the first post in that thread)...

I'm just amazed...there's another thread going...another of our friends & neighbors (can't remember the screen name just now...but the thread is titled "Live from SSR") is posting from SSR, too...and she reports minimal crowds! I must be going to all the "wrong" places at all the "wrong" times! (There's no such thing as a wrong place at a wrong tme at Disney...but you know what I mean!)...

Anyway...the trip is still wonderful...I'm "over" the bounced Disney rewards card (I'll check in w/DVC when I get home...maybe they can switch it over to apply to dues, or maybe they'll send me Disney Dollars instead)...we had the best meal ever at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe tonight (macadamia nut crusted chicken breast...I think I've died & gone to heaven!)...my friend's eyes will never shrink back down to normal; she's just dazzled by DTD...she & the nine-year-old are still there; the 11-year-old and I "gave up the ghost" and came back to the villas for some downtime...

And yes, I have been here a LOT in the last few months...Labor Day, T-giving, Jan and now...I'm SO lucky! But I didn't save a penny by buying DVC! I just come more often ... this trip is a test (I'm happy to report I'm passing)...work is very busy right now, but it's the kind of busy that I can handle w/computer and phone...so I'm working from here...and believe me, if you gotta work, working from Disney is MUCH better than working from home! (at least so long as the work to be done can be done w/computer and phone)...

Not sure when the next trip after this one will be...definiitely T-giving, maybe an "in between" end-of-school-year-beginning-of-summer-program" week w/son in May, but maybe not...depends on his schedule...will I "survive" if I have to wait all the way til November???? I have my doubts!

Hurray for WDW!!

Tomorrow's Animal Kingdom in the a.m., then an afternoon of work, swim, more DTD...then to Epcot for dinner, Illuminations, rides...then probably some more work (still have some left to do tonight, too...probably should get off DISBoards and get cracking!)...

I'm a happy person! Dani
