Ok, have a question. I burned my first CD today from music I downloaded from Musicmatch Jukebox.

I got the CD to play in my DVD player and stuff but it won't play in my DD's radio. Did I use the wrong kind of CD's? I got the CD-RW pack.

This is my first experience and I was so happy when it played in my dvd player. Then when I tried in her radio, I was so upset since I was making this cd for her.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may be a stupid question, but, did you make an audio cd or a mp3?

Not a stupid question since I didn't really know if I was doing it right.

Apparently audio is automatically selected so that's what I used. I didn't even know I could change it until your question. I went into the help section and it told me how to change it if I need to.

Should it have been set to something else? If so, how can I delete what's on there so I can redo it?

It's not your cd, its probably her radio. How old is it? It needs to say CDR/W playback on it.

Burned cds won't play in all cd players.

I've been burning CD's for years and sometimes do several at the same time using the same brand CD for each. When I finish, some will play with no problem while another burned at the same time with same brand CD from same package will not. As Wally would say....search me! :confused3

Her radio is about 1 year old. My dad had a CD burned for her last month and it works fine. I also used the same brand which is Memorex but again, didn't know if his was a CD-R or what.

1. Don't use Memorex, it's one of the more unreliable known-brand
2. Burn at a slower speed, no faster than 8x, especially for audio and tiny files such as photos
3. Most CD players will play CD-R (including my 15-year old, yes that's FIFTEEN, CD player) but not necessarily CD-RW due to the different laser wavelength used so unless the CD player is marked CD-RW compatible, then mostly it won't play. Even then it's iffy.

Thanks. Again, he (the guy who did the other one) told me to get Memorex but I didn't think to ask about the CD-R/CD-RW, etc...

I have to go out today so I'll get some CD-R.

How do you select it burn at a lower speed?

Usually the program which you're using to do the burning has a selectable burn rate. I have this on Roxio, Nero, etc.

As an added note on Memorex media -- we burn DVDs at work constantly and the only media we've had trouble with is Memorex. We wind up with "coasters" probably 35%-40% of the time. Needless to say, we're looking forward to running out of stock on Memorex and substituting something else. After two failed attempts on a particular important project, a co-worker brought in a few of the cheapest "no-name" media he could find. Both disks burned perfectly.

Thanks. Is there a certain brand name that is trustworthy?

Since these are CD-RW, can I just go into explorer, click on the disk and delete the files so I can reuse the CD?

My old computer didn't have any type of CD burner or anything. I have no idea how to reuse this CD now, maybe to copy pictures onto or files.

We've had very good luck with Imation, Sony, AT&T & Maxell media. We typically buy in bulk -- a minimum of 500 cds and 200 dvds at a time...

One thought regarding your problem -- did you finalize the disk? That's an option when you burn an audio cd. You always need to finalize a disk to play in a standard CD player -- finalization is like adding the road map so the player knows where to find the songs. Without it, the player doesn't know what to do and so it does nothing...

I didn't see an option to finilize unless it did it automatically. Once the CD was done, my disk ejected so I figured everything was complete.

Again, it did play in my DVD player at home but not in the radio. I'm going to try it in my car and see if it works.

I noticed in my options there is a spot that says "close disk after burn". Is that finalize?

We use Imation. I have my 15 y.o. burn my CD's, I have no idea how to do it, and why bother learning when he can do it with his eyes closed!

I made the mistake of buying/burning onto a CD-RW and it wouldn't play in my 2000 Blazer. I had to burn it again on a CD-R.

I think so. My programs use the term "finalize," but close is much the same. I think at that time it basically "locks" the disk, adds the roadmap, and makes it playable. Unfortunately, it also makes it no longer a cd-rw (can not re-write). For any audio program (audio cd) you really don't need to go to the added expense of -rw disks. Those are best for data or photos where you're adding on additional files. Stick with the cheaper and more basic cd-r's for music and you'll be fine.

Has anyones used Walmart Music for downloads? And if so were you able to burn them to CD and play them in other media sources other than your computer?

Thanks so much for all your help. Guess I'll go out and get some cheap CD-R and burn some and try using the "close" option as well. I also have another burn program on my computer called sonic. They were both installed on here when I got my computer.

Are they any other good burning software out there that is easy to use for music and DVD's.?

Thanks so much everyone. I tried the CD-RW and it worked in my Jeep cd player as well...just not her radio...anyway:

I just got back from the store and purchased CD-R Music (Sony). Burned all the same songs again, popped it into her radio and wala...it played.

Thanks again for everyone's help. She's going to be one little happy girl when she gets off the school bus!
